RIP the Duke of Edinburgh

Big shame. Not a fan of the monarchy but he did have something very likeable about him, maybe a slightly mischievous sense of humour.

99 is a great age, there's hope for us all but would have been good to see him get a card off his Mrs.

He was always good value during royal visits. The queen would go out of her way to be polite and Philip would find a way of putting his foot in it.

I have had the pleasure of meeting the Duke of Edinburgh through my work with the DofE. A very nice man indeed and will his work for young people will be sadly missed.

RIP
I also met him and the queen. He seemed to show a lot of interest, cracked a joke or two, the queen was very perfunctory.

Good innings and not entirely unexpected.

RIP. at least he didn't die in hospital a few weeks back. always better to be at home surrounded by family

RIP ... thoughts are with her Majesty and the Royal Family at this sad time

Does that mean she will wear black for the rest for her reign? Like Queen Victoria?

Not one of your finer posts mushroom 🤔
There's a time and a place and this isn't it.
are we in the "round on anyone that doesn't say 100% respectful" stage? I assume this standard will be followed for all celebrities that die in the future, no jokes, no objectivity about their life?

As a republican, I can absolutely feel sorry for his families loss, he has children and grandchildren that I'm sure will miss him and everyone has the right to feel personal grief at his loss, but please stop rounding on anyone that doesn't share your same feelings of grief.

I think the comments have been in respect of timing.
Sometimes, if you haven't something nice to say, don't say anything.
