Rogers and Greenwood

I think the Azaz signing signals the end of us making Greenwood permanent to be honest.

He just doesn’t do enough throughout 90 minutes.

Rogers I’m a big fan of but I’m not going to judge him playing against the current second highest ranked team in the country.

Greenwood certainly works hard, in fact he almost tries too hard at times, certainly with his finishing where a bit more finesse would be nice.
He could have easily had a ton of goals recently with better luck/finishing.
I've felt over the last 2 games Greenwood starts ok , but fades as the game goes on
I'm trying to be convinced by Rogers too
Both are improving, but not the finished articles

Both Rogers and Coburn are the same age - 21.
Why demand so much from one and give the other much more slack?
Exactly.

Both have promise yet flaws to their game and plenty of time to resolve them. They’re two of the best 21 year olds in this league

Rogers was effective tonight.

Anyone writing him off knows F all about football.
Agreed, they’re picking him up on turning into traffic and losing the ball a couple of times, which he did, but he also carried the ball well at times had a good shot on target and generally played some intelligent balls

Being straight - forward:

Judging any player according to the Evening Gazette's "player ratings" is questionable to say the least.(n)

I thought greenwood was quieter than usual last night but it was a diff test really and the whole team put a shift in.

As for Roger’s we’ve just signed one of his best mates who he grew up playing with so that should really suit his game.

Not judging a player based on that. I have seen it with my own two eyes. Just backing up how poor he’s been

I'm not quite sure if Villa's defense is good or not. But what is certain is that their midfield is definitely strong.
We didn't have many offensive opportunities. Therefore, it is impossible to judge whether our attacking midfielder is good enough or not.

Neither have Coburn's application yet, and he's still learning. For me they were the weak links yesterday.

When criticising those behind them for lack of delivery it's worth looking at the options given to them further upfield.

Rogers did not look out of place against a top premier league team last night. He was finding nice pockets of space and at times reminded me a bit of Chuba last year In our build up. Greenwood is being given an opportunity to cement a place in the team, which I dont think he is really grasping. Carrick keeps talking about the players having good connections on the pitch and at the minute he seems on a slightly different wavelength. He has ability and does press high up the pitch but I think he is probably making Carricks decision on who Azaz replaces easier at the minute.

Morning Moreno.
My comments weren't aimed at you, but are a general observation.
The "ratings" are outweighed by video's, social media, highlights and vlogs these days.
Sooner trust Yusuf, Jake Johnson, Maddo, The Boro Breakdown Podcast and U R My Boro than Reach Media PLC - every time (y)

I’m a Rogers convert. I just think he’s starting to grow in confidence. Yes, he’s still got some rough edges and some of his passing is a bit sloppy at times but he’s always trying to make something happen. Love the way he carries the ball too, and runs at defences when giving a bit of space.

He’s getting better by the week and think he’s going to be a massive player for us next season.

Greenwood has undoubtedly struggled in recent weeks. I was all for signing him permanently a few months back but now I’m wavering,

He may be struggling with the fact he’s not played this much first time football ever in his career. There may be a little tiredness creeping into his game.

That said, I think he covers a lot of ground when we press sides and certainly don’t think he’s lazy. The pressing means he’s sometimes caught out of position and struggle to get back in time (which I can forgive) but his all round game play - passing, ball retention and decision making in particular is lacking at times. He’s certainly capable of moments of magic, and I imagine he’s played more minutes than we imagined due to Riley’s injury.

Rogers ✅
Greenwood - Unsure

They’re weird, dominated and totally shut down Man City, but then against Man Utd it looked like United were through with every single through ball they played, like it looked pathetically easy. Odd.

Shocked so many people rate Rogers so highly. To describe him as a “class act” I find completely baffling. I will continue to watch him and hopefully I am proven wrong.

I was listening to the Boro breakdown podcast yesterday and they were discussing on there that Rogers is top of most of the attacking statistics for us this season. Most chances created, most expected assists, successfully completed dribbles etc. He also top of most Goal contributions (goals or assists) with 13.
I reckon if you can't see it yet, you probably never will.

Still incredibly young as well.

I think Rodgers has shown time and time again that he has the potential to be a really good player. Maybe even Premier League level. Time will tell.

Greenwood is weird, he often starts matches full of ideas and energy trying to make things happen and then just disappears after about 15 minutes. Jury still out on him at the moment but I certainly wouldn't write him off yet. Who knows the limits of our coaching team yet.

Rogers definitely has something about him but he gets in great positions and plays wasteful misplaced passes all the time and it's very frustrating. If he can get that sorted so we stop losing the ball unnecessarily, which wastes good opportunities, he could be very good. He's great running with the ball, strong, quick and with a bit of skill and he's not bad on front of goal either.

Greenwood is the opposite. He's got some technical skill and can (usually) finish but the things he is lacking, like pace, can never be overcome. I'd be very disappointed if we made his transfer permanent. I don't see him improving much.
