Rosie Jones

Comedy is subjective. You can’t really say someone isn’t funny. They’re not funny to you!

I like Russell Kane 👍
Not so much Rosie Jones 👎 I agree with previous posters. Waiting for her to deliver punchlines makes my toes curl. Swiftly followed by forced/sympathetic laughter by the guests and/or audience.

For the people who don't like her, do you not like her because its hard to understand her and it takes a while for her to tell a joke? I wouldn't say she's my favourite comedian but I think she's funny, and tells jokes about disability in a funny way that's not disrespectful.

Why does it have to be a box ticking exercise if someone happens to appear on TV who isn’t a white British man?
Can’t people just accept that’s comedy, some people will clearly find her funny, and others don’t
People like Jimmy Carr massively split opinion, some love him, most probably hate him. But no one is claiming he is appearing on TV as a box ticking exercise

I could actually get round her disability. She was on that Saturday Night Live one off revival 18 months ago, so it was her less panel show friendly stuff. And a more witless, crude, lazy pile of crap you would have to travel many leagues to encounter. Like a 13 year old who's just discovered swearing.

I've talked about Rosie Jones here before - her standup is absolutely brilliant and shows where she is either a solo contributor (Joe Lycett's Got Your Back) or is the focus of the show, such as the one where she travelled around the UK with a different guest each week work really well.

It doesn't work as well on panel shows because pacing is key. Although remember what we see on TV is edited from hours of footage.

They do have specific rules about panels, particularly on BBC where they have to have a certain quota of each demographic. They also have representation requirements for disability and sexuality. If they have to find someone to meet quotas but they wouldn't have been first choice then they is by definition box ticking.

Rosie Jones ticks three separate boxes being s female, disabled lesbian so she ends up on more shows. The overexposure probably makes people feel like it is more of a problem because if you don't like her you are seeing her more than you would like.

I also agree that there are loads of comedians that I don't find funny but they are usually easy to ignore and you can still find the rest of the show funny whereas Rosie is very hard to not notice and, as said before, she slows the pace right down and where other comedians would ordinarily jump in with a joke or response they can't because they have to wait to let her finish.

Nano has answered this pretty well but I’ll add that it has nothing to do with liking or disliking the person in question. I think most would agree that representation is important but it should not be to the detriment of the show. Taskmaster is a show that does it very well. Most here have acknowledged that Rosie is funny and has talent but doesn’t fit the type of show she often appears on.

I don’t think anyone’s saying they don’t like her

I personally don't find her funny.
I do admire her attempting it, but for me comedy is timing and she can't master that.
It doesn't stop her being very successful writing comedy.
