Ryan Giles

You would think Wolves would want a look at him first. And if they wanted to give him a run it would be a bit of a non starter him coming here - considering it is his boyhood club.

If they still don't fancy him - I would have him in either league. His final ball is superb and not teachable. And with the right tactics you can mostly hide him a bit on defence.

Another thing about Giles defending - if he was that bad why do opposing teams attack Smith down our RH side more? Smith always seems the busier FB.
Sure if Giles was substantially the weak link, opposition managers would be targeting him more?

Exactly this.

Is he the second coming of Stuart Pearce? Well obviously not.

Does he do his job, keep his position and stand up his man? Yes he does. He's actually decent defending 1v1.

He looked very weak defensively under Wilder, there was always acres of space down the left hand side. I think that's what a lot of people are remembering when they imply he's this massive liability defensively.

After half a season of playing in a back 4, I actually think he looks pretty steady there now. How many goals is he at fault for? It's not many.

He might surprise a few in the prem if he gets the chance. Extreme example, but I don't think Trippier when he was at Burnley looked particularly strong defensively in the championship. Adomah absolutely tore him a new one at one game at the Riverside. But he was an assist machine and learnt the defensive side of the game.
