Sam Morsy

Bearing in mind we just avoided dropping to the third tier when we signed him..........

1. Personally, he was the leader I hoped we’d go in for when someone started a thread on leaders at the end of last season. As we know, we lacked leaders, he is a strong leader, was Captain of a decent enough Wigan team
2. We lacked tenacity, drive and a player the opposition hate to come up against. Well he has all that for sure.
3. He was a bit of a bargain fee wise and wont be on big wages, so is affordable.

WHAT IS THERE NOT TO LIKE?

Hes a pain-in-the-arze for the opposition.
Never lets up.
Gets stuck in.

Breaks them down.
Just what we needed.

Sometimes runs close to the red line....
Glad hes here.

Thank you Neil Warnock.(y)

I like him
I thought our shaky patch in November and the start of December started with his injury. Of course, correlation is not causation, and form didn't recover as soon as he returned, but I think his absence kicked us out of the shape and pattern into which we had settled so well.

I do see the Doriva comparison, though I think SM has offered a bit more of an attacking threat and has been a bit unlucky not to have a goal or two thus far. Dave was almost certainly the better player though. I don't think the comparison is intended derogatively, is it? Dave got a lot of stick at the time (usually because he was picked instead of a second striker) but I think his contribution to the most successful era in our history has now been recognised by most?

I think he’s incredibly limited, is immobile and has a poor range of passing. Maybe good when you are scrapping for points at the wrong end of the table however if you have aspirations of making the play offs then he is a “last 10 minutes holding onto a win” sub at best.

Wouldn‘t have him anywhere near the starting eleven unless we were desperate.

And he wasn't our worst midfielder today. Saville plays a part in one style of play but not against teams like Brum and Blackburn.

The entire midfield was poor today

It is one of the main things I miss from the Karanka period to be honest (other than the win ratio and points haul).

We controlled the midfield, teams must have hated coming up against us knowing they were going to have Grant and Clayton in their pomp to get through.

I loved us dominating teams.

Morsy’s yellow card today was typical, no need to foul at all with plenty of defenders covering but he still lunged in chasing back giving a free kick away in a dangerous position on the edge of the box

He is like Besic where he likes to dribble the ball to the man rather than pass it. Don’t think he should be in the best eleven either. Sick of his stupid fouls. Would love to get this winger in today so Tav can go in midfield

I think his levels have dropped. Sav and others have improved around him also but he does the thankless tasks and probably in the changing room the players know how important he is.
