We don't look like we'll suddenly click and go on the kind of run that'd make us a genuine playoff proposition. We could still limp into 6th knowing the Championship, but we'd struggle over 2 legs against any of the other prospective playoff teams.
We need an investment in the squad in the summer otherwise it'll be another season of transition. We missed a golden opportunity to go up last year and all of you who were saying we should rest players at the end of the season should now know what a mistake that was. It was a lesson learned, but sadly we have lost so much talent from that season to this that it won't be a consideration over the remaining games.
If the worst happens and we again sell our best players and bring in more projects then I'd not blame Carrick one bit if he left.
It's all well and good having a well-run club, but there are times when you have to roll the dice and given the football we saw last season then I'd say that Carrick deserves to have the tools at his disposal to have another crack at promotion. The longer we stay out of the PL, the harder it'll become to build a squad to gain promotion because the imperative to sell will just get bigger each season. Just one season in the PL will put us in a better position, even if we do get pumped week on week.
To think of the money wasted by Monk and Pulis in particular makes me sick.
