Sheff utd fans view damaging boro defeat

These comments are telling and I think they have a ring of truth. Boro fsns singing ‘olé’ to the boro out passing, out fighting SU on their home turf has demoralised their belief somewhat;

From their forum which is full of praise for us…..
Its not just the defeats, its the manner of the defeats.

its the Boro's fans shouting "Ole' " while they string pass after pass together and we cant get near them.

That felt like a big moment to me.
Seemed to really demoralise our players to have the **** taken out of them in their own backyard. I thought we lacked character that night and we've not been particularly good since.

I absolutely agree with this SU fan, doing what we did (fans take credit too!!) on their ground embarrassed them showed up heckingbottom which has a psychological impact.

A bit of wishful thinking thrown in there. I understand why you are thinking that way but they beat Spurs last week and Watford the week before - both after that "demoralising" defeat and they are capable of going to Reading midweek and reopening that 7 point gap.

I hate the Ole’s unless we’re further out of sight, just feel like it tempts fate and appeals to my ingrained pessimism.
Same here. I dont like olé’s, or taking the **** out of the opposition unless we are out of sight. I will never forget singing “this is the premier league” away at Reading on the first day of the premier league season. Ouch.

Absolutely, I was there that day and actually joined in singing that. Never again 😂

This thread though is about SU and their draining confidence. The spurs game was an almost totally different first 11 to the normal team so can’t be classed as a confidence booster in my mind
And their limped to a win vs Watford
A Watford in my view who won’t make the playoffs under bilic

Playoffs will be;
SU
Norwich
Blackburn
Millwall

I felt during the Sheff Utd game the Boro fans were burying a demon after the dismal performance the season before under Wilder.

Sheffield tore us a new one and we did that to them this season.

Sheff utd will beat Reading , its their 2 after that where we may make a few points up , think they have Sland & then W brom , neither playing as well as us .....but neither are Sheff Utd !!!

Sheff Utd are rattled. There is no denying it, you could see it written all over Heckingbottoms face when the camera was on him yesterday. They will certainly roll Reading over, but then have Luton and Sunderland and Norwich away.

Reading are a good home side and terrible away so there's no guarantee Sheff Utd will roll them over.

If they beat Sheff Utd they will go back above us in the home only table to 4th. Their last home defeat was 4th November. Away they are the worst team in the league.

Until we are second we have our work cut out. But it’s always better for a team to be chasing and have something to play for at this stage of the season. It’s come at a bad time for Sheff Utd and it will seem like a long way to the finish line for them.

We just have to approach it a game at a time. I’m sure the players are doing that but we have to too! Enjoy the form and the ride and let’s see where we are at Easter.

All of this is what I am telling myself when I find myself day dreaming staring at a wall.

I'll say this for you EFL, you don't really do sitting on the fence do you? This season I think you've gone from Carrick will be a disaster to we're definitely going to chase down SU and finish second. Fair play 😃

The freedom and belief that Carrick has brought is incredible, slotting in those final pieces of the jigsaw in Archer and Ramsay, the squad where he can make multiple changes yet keep up the momentum, we don’t need to fear anybody, the West Brom and Sunderland games, were blips which we recovered from quickly, this is going to the wire, even could be to the last game of the season but we will finish 2nd or 3rd.

I came away from yesterday's game thinking there's no way SU will drop points at Reading.

However, Reading have the 5th best home record in the division. They must have more about them than they showed yesterday or they'd be rock bottom, and Ince will demand a reaction

Come on you Biscuitmen!

I’m not buying this Sheff Utd meltdown thing. Their form just doesn’t back it up.

They lost to us and Blackburn, no shame there, but aside from that their form has been good.

They’ll win far more than they lose between now and the end of the season. I’d love to be wrong but I still think we gave them too much of a head start to catch them for 2nd.

You've missed out the defeat at Millwall and being held at Rotherham. 7 points from the last 6 is a big fall off from 16 in the 6 before that.

I'll accept they've had tough fixtures and those recent fixtures have been tough. However, Id expect an automatic promotion team to be able to dig out a point from 1 or 2 of the tough games.

And regardless of who they have lost points against, confidence is hit, pressure is building, fans are tense and media are talking.

It all adds up.
