Sheff Utd sell Sander Berge to Burnley

From the Sheff Utd statement looks like he wanted to go and they have just tried to get the most money they could for him..."Attempts to persuade the Norwegian international to sign a new contract have been unsuccessful and consequently, after negotiations, the club have reluctantly accepted Burnley's latest, undisclosed, bid."

Looked average and disinterested for a lot of last season. Certainly looked like he wanted to be away for a while.

Football is a funny game isn’t it.

Sheff United losing their two best players after getting promoted and being linked with a player many of their fans called a flash in the pan only 6 months ago.

Impressed with the business Burnley are doing. I think Kompany keeps them up, the man seems obsessed and very passionate, i think he will be the real deal.

Sheff Utd as stated have nothing and will be rock bottom most if not all of the season for me.

As said on the Ramsay thread its either brilliant or madness spending £84m. Fans love it but for a club like Burnley its going for it sh1t or bust. They are stacked with wingers.

Had they not gone up I think Sheffield United would have been in serious financial trouble, I think they're bigger certainties than Luton to go down this season. Burnley were a different level to the other teams so think they'll stay up comfortably. I think Sheffield United, Luton and Wolves will be fodder.

Agree. Paul Heckingbottom spent most of last season complaining about lack of funds, their dip in form came after the January transfer window shut and they hadn't added any fresh legs, and a lot of Sheff U through and through players have left over the summer. The last remnants of Wilder's squad really.

Heckingbottom working with a 'relatively modest budget'published at 12:08

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has been explaining why Sheffield United are having to work with a small transfer budget on BBC Radio Sheffield: "The money they have has realistically gone on players. Prior to getting into the Premier League the first time round, they were losing a lot of money. So those former losses had to be dealt with and that's proven to be a challenge for the owners.

"There's been issues with regards to ownership changes. Nobody wants to put their hands in their pockets if they're not going to be around in a few months' or a few years' time. There's been a bit of a stand off with the level of spending. I think it's testament to the quality of the team last season that they were promoted under a relatively modest budget."

On the Blades spending their budget wisely: "Luton Town have just been promoted and they're not spending big money, so I think the first thing for Sheffield United fans to do is to take a look around and be realistic. They need to identify five or six other clubs who they think could be in the mix at the end of the season.

"When Sheffield United were promoted three or four seasons ago, they were absolutely brilliant in that first season. They surprised everybody, even though they had modest spending during that season, and maybe the board feel that could be replicated under the new manager."

The Blades might not have achieved escape velocity before a points deduction was applied, if Blackburn had knocked them out of the FA Cup at the QF stage.

They banked a few million from their trip to Wembley, which helped stave off the threat of admin at the business end of last season.
