Shocking scenes in Bristol tonight

I cant help but be drawn to the fact this protest was badged "kill the bill" with its patently obvious connotations associated with a film which very deliberately celebrates violence. Sort of detracts from the notion that it was ever going to be a peaceful and non-violent protest does it not? Its not a huge leap of imagination to reach that conclusion, though I'm sure my theory will be dismissed by some
Or maybe it’s just because kill and bill rhyme

It transpires that police officers did not suffer broken bones nor punctured lungs.

Police retract claims that officers suffered broken bones at Bristol protest

Fancy that.

Just seen the story myself.

Kevin Blowe, the coordinator of Netpol, which campaigns around the policing of protest, said exaggerated claims of injuries by police were not without precedent. “It’s par for the course,” Blowe said. “People have flagged up the whole business of the injuries at Kingsnorth that were used to crack down on the protest there, which turned out to be insect bites [and] exhaustion.”

Regarding the claims of injuries at Bristol, Blowe said: “It does raise concerns that Avon and Somerset may have been trying to sell the case not only for their operation on the night, but for what happens next. Bristol is geared up for raids on homes.”

There is a journalist video emerged from Friday night protests of a riot policeman knocking him to the ground with a riot shield, for seemingly no reason. I hope to god we are not seeing an emboldened police force based on our governments attitude to the geneal public.

Police is Tories with truncheons, They will be lying all the way. Just as bent as their political paymasters Half of the rioters will have been plain clothes.

Notice those sticking up for the coppers in Bristol last week are a bit quieter after last night's disgusting scenes on both sides.

Who would you turn too if something happened to you or your family.Crying straight to the police, i`d bet my house on it.

Any time I've needed the police they've been useless. Get a crime number and then nothing.

One time after a house burglary they told us they know who the burglars are in the area, but still didn't actually go and do anything.

Yes he was annoying as hell by anyone’s standards! You couldn’t watch the news in peace without that moron creating his noise.

So? It's just a bloke shouting. The idea of him getting prison time for that should be absurd by anyones standards. It's a very obviously stupid piece of legislation.

Every report I've read, listened to or watched described the violence being started by the protestors and even if it didn't simple common sense tells you that this is overwhelmingly likely to be the case.

Every report I've been reading from Bristol says the exact opposite - often bavked up with videos showing out of control police. The riot police are the ones that turn up and start the violence.

Fair enough, if thats your view, but I think any reasonable, balanced and fair minded person would believe the opposite of that to be true, whilst accepting that there's an exception to every rule of course.

You've got to ask yourself why would they do that? I'm sure that the vast majority would rather be doing their day job, rather than being confronted with a situation that all your instincts tell you to run away from, when you actually have to do the opposite.

Maybe folk who become riot police aren't as averse to violence as most people. 🤷‍♂️

At least you've got a boot boy ally.

There is plenty of evidence that the police overstepped what is acceptable. Videos, pictures on the BBC website of a girls bruised body after being kicked whilst on the ground, by 4 police officers.

Any fair minded person would suggest the police had every right to arrest, with reasonable force, anyone breaking the law. Equally any fair minded person would think attacking a reporter, or a protester sitting on the ground, with batons and kicks is totally unacceptable.

Slamming the shields on to people on the ground looked a good weapon of choice as well.

The scenes were dreadful and totally unnecessary.

I'm think I'm a fair minded, balanced and reasonable person, that's why I think a video of a police riot officer smashing a young tiny lass, who's just standing there, in the face with his shield knocking her clean out is wrong.
