He's barely featured really when we've been absolutely bare bones for attacking players for huge chunks of the season, Rogers and Greenwood have been given the nod ahead of him up top. I don't think it is too harsh to say he's had more bad games than good.
I just don't see how he gets any more minutes next season if we sign another striker which I assume we will. We surely can't have a similarly injury ravaged campaign next time out?
We need quality not unknowns and quantity, we have a big squad with not enough quality in the starting 11 or bench in a few positions, the fact we have had no fit forwards a lot of times this campaign and the likes of Gilbert and Silvera haven't really been utilised suggests Carrick doesn't have much belief in them either to me.
He could improve, but I don't think he's strong enough, or natural enough in his shooting and positioning to play up top as a striker, and too lightweight without sufficient covering and workrate to play wide in our preferred 4-2-3-1. As a support striker playing off someone more robust with a bit of nous, in some version of a 3-5-2 formation he might be okay off the bench or in an emergency.
But if we are serious about having a real go of it (trying for the autos or an upper play-offs push), he's shown nothing to suggest he's of the right calibre of player to improve us as a starter, or even push the player in the squad in front of him enough to give the manager a decision to make.
