Disagree tbh. His passing is very poor. When Watmore had that decent run and laid it off to Smith he had 4 options up with him and instead ended up turning back towards Fry. Didn't make any effort to get to the ball at the corner they scored from, just ended up on his *rse trying to foul the goalscorer.
He’s given the ball away more than any Middlesbrough player
Been caught out at the back post twice

They all turn back though. They’ve been doing it for weeks. This is what happens when your confidence is on the floor.
I think Smith has done the job asked of him very well tonight.
He's never going to be an exciting player, but he's no nonsense and a "needed boring".
I've seen him cover for Fry twice when Fry's flew into 5050s, and he's gave Jones more freedom by playing more defensively.

Exactly. We need more who can do the ugly stuff well and run through walls for the team.
Our defence didn’t have a clue under Wilder and was an absolute shambles.

Grew into the game I thought, passing was awful first hair, but stuck at it and was much better second half.

Seemed to work well with jones.
The problem under Wilder was he wanted centre backs to attack, when we also have wing backs who attack.... so there were too many occasions where dijksteel and jones/giles are too far up the pitch, leaving massive holes for the other team to play into.
Smith tonight, was the perfect example of a player whos going to stand in the middle of those holes and clean up other players mistakes.

We just didn’t have the players capable of doing what he wanted sadly. Asking Fry to play that type of role was like asking a fish to climb a tree.
A good manager would have adapted his tactics to suit our squad but I’m not sure he is as good as he thinks he is.

Grew into the game, he’s barely played so you can’t expect him to come out all guns blazing.
Leo gave him an extra big man hug at full time, he must be a good voice to have around the squad with plenty of experience.
