Stadium Sponsorship

On the theme of increasing revenue into the club, just wondering why the stadium has never had a sponsor post BT/Cellnet?

I know we are not the only one, and this isn't a dig at the club, but why not?

When so many clubs are on their ars*s you would think they would do practically anything to get more money into the clubs coffers.

🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

This is a question I do know an answer for and yes it is actively being explored. But one major flaw is we are talking an altogether different level of sponsorship for Championship to Premier. If you do a deal in the EFL you would want it to be long term. You would not want to change name every year but the starting price is nowhere compared to if you are in the Premier. But they have definitely been talking to companies on this.
That very recent deal between the women's team and Lassa Tyres shows the commercial team at Boro are exploring lots of different avenues now. In that case it was a sponsor that wanted to work with the women's game rather than the men's game.
Mind you, how would you feel going to the Bet365 Riverside Stadium? I am not saying for a minute Boro have had talks with a betting company but not every company is as neutral as Cellnet was perceived.

I very much doubt we are turning away companies that want to pay meaningful money to sponsor the stadium.

I think there are only 4 Premier League clubs with a sponsors' name attached to their stadium and 5 in the Championship. Many of those are sponsored by a company with close links to their owner (e.g. Etihad, bet365, KingPower).

Notably this doesn't include St James' Park, as you would have assumed PIF would use the opportunity to pump money into the club this way if they were allowed.

I can only conclude that companies generally don't see stadium sponsorship as value for money and clubs presumably aren't prepared to rebrand their stadium every few years - at considerable cost - for a relatively minor sum of money.

Cheers for that Rob👍

Personally wouldn't want a gambling company anywhere near the club, but beggars and choosers at this level sadly.

Lot of clubs don't have their stadium sponsored so I would assume commercially it isn't that good a deal for the club.

As an aside I remember being told maybe 10 years ago that sponsors wanted the complete name - ie as at Huddersfield - John Smiths. Or Bolton historically The Reebok. You can see this in cricket and rugby union as well can't you. So it might not be BT Cellnet Riverside Stadium this time but just the O2 Stadium - perhaps they would throw in wifi. ;)
