Stockton Calling - who are your 'must see' acts?

Surprising that! A lot of the acts on that stage are promoter faves and regulars at the other festivals around here.

I really like Viia, she gives me Lana Del Rey vibes.

Here is my partially finalised list for Stockton Calling. It will probably change between now and Saturday as I keep hearing good things every time I listen. Only just added The Roasdocs and Skinny Living this morning after previously writing them off.

Loads of bands clashing later in the night but not many earlier in the day. That’s fine it give me a chance to new bands I have not heard. Hugely disappointed that Avalanche Party, Benefits, and Sleeper clash with my “must see band of the day” Tummyache. ATM they are my choice but as I have seen all four bands that might change. Also depends on where the Link is. Some of the choice made because of timings and locations of venues. Also wanted to catch Lilo, Scrugs band Nice Guy, Opus Kink, and Kkett to name just four more. Others as well. Not even going to attempt The Sherlocks at The KU Bar as it will be mobbed as it was for The Reytons last year. But that was ok as I got to see Bob Vylan instead and he turned out to be the best act I saw all day.



The bold type is the probables atm.

8:00 – 8:40 SOCIAL ROOM – Avalanche Party or 8:00 – 8:45 GEORGIAN – Benefits or 8:15 LINK – Tummyache

9:15 ARC – Circa Waves or 9:10 – 9:50 SOCIAL ROOM – Opus Kink or 9:30 GEORGIAN – Sleeper

10:00 ARC 2 – Panic Shack or 10:00 KU BAR – The Sherlocks probably mobbed at KU Bar.

10:30 SOCIAL ROOM - The Pale White or home to bed as off to Bristol Sunday morning.

Got another last night for a friend who's phone is so old it doesn't take apps but that seemed to be the only way you could book. Get p!ssed off with all this pushing to mobile phones, contactless payments etc etc when all options and people should be catered for.

Unfortunately missed yesterday but been to a few previously and it’s always a belter!

Just wondering if they is anything similar within the uk anyone can recommend?
 
Had a great day, quick review.

Weathership - Utterly fantastic, best I’ve seen them play and they’re usually fantastic anyway.

Eyeconic - I love this guy, his crowd work is brilliant but the sound in Sticky’s was really quiet. Shakk jumped up on stage for an ‘unplanned’ performance with him (it was definitely planned).

Silver Lines - Brilliant, I knew what to expect from them having played with them before. Lots of energy and got the crowd going. They turned up at our gig later on too which was unexpected.

Carpaccios - Got a penne pollo pasta and garlic bread 6/10. Felt sorry for whoever stood at the front at our gig as I burped garlic for the rest of the day.

Silvi - Only caught two of her tunes but enjoyed what I heard, good crowd in there and her vocal range is incredible.

Skinny Love - These were the surprise of the day for me, completely different to what I’d normally listen to but the frontman’s voice is something else. They finished on a song called ‘Let Go’ and it was such a beautiful moment it had me tearing up a little as I’m a soft b****d.

The Big Day - Not for me, great vocals and energy but just couldn’t get away with it.

Benefits - I lasted one song. I appreciate their message, but I’m just not that angry 😂 I see it as more performance art than music, but it was absolutely packed to the rafters for them.

Eyesore & The Jinx - Very odd experience, I’m not sure if I liked it or not but they definitely gave it the bifters.

Then we played, it was great and I went home. Lovely day 👍🏻
 
Had a belting day - saw some great live music and bumped into old friends as every year.
I must say, Stockton punches miles above it's weight when it comes to live venues.
I enjoy Twisterella in M'bro but the venues are nowhere near comparable.
A big shout out to the organisers - bang on the money as always.
 
Steady if not spectacular is how I would call it. Thoroughly enjoyed the day and weather was great all day.
SNAYX were an excellent start to the day and got crowd going early.
Brought down to earth by TEN EIGHTY TREES who were poor and only lasted 3 numbers.
BARSTAFF were pretty average not bad.
Caught 4 songs by LILO who were very good. Lovely harmonies.
Next was THE ROSADECS who were decent and got the crowd going.
As noted by Scug SKINNY LOVE were one of the days surprises. Great singer and a few very good songs. Probably never go see them again as not my cup of tea but really enjoyed their set.
THE CHASE were pretty good indie/ska band. Crowd went mental.
EYESORE & THE JINX were joint best band of the day for me. Spoke to a few others who thought they were excellent and also noticed a few walking about with their 12" EP. What/who did they sound like is the million dollar question. A very unique sound and hopefully they will be back in the area soon.
TUMMYACHE were my must see band of the day and they did not disappoint. Only issue was their set was only about 35 minutes instead of 45 the said they had been allocated. Brilliant band. The Link in not a great addition to venue roster. Not great crowd as it's a bit off beaten track and beer is over £6 a pint.
Could not get in to CIRCA WAVES so caught about 4 songs by OPUS KINK who were really good. Although someone said could you listen to a full album by them and I get their point.
Back to Arc2 and a chance to catch up with the Blaggamuffin and his lovely wife. Thanks for the drink. PANIC SHACK were one of the days highlights and got better as the set went on. Good to hear they sold out TKASG show at The Cluny on Friday.
And that was that. Home as off to Bristol today for match tomorrow. Posting from train ATM.
Disappointments were bands I missed due to clashes Benefits, Avalanche Party. Circa Waves due to crowd size.

So all in all a great day which got better as it went on and while for me it never hit the heights of some previous years it's still a top day out. Well done to all the organisers, staff, bands and crowd.

asredastheycome - I was talking to you in the Link about Eyesore and the Jinx - about how good they were and how you could describe them.
Seen 13(and a bit) bands overall and enjoyed all apart from Whitenoise and Ten Eighty Trees, to be fair to them they probably just weren't my cup of tea.
The best acts for me were probably the last four I seen Eyesore and the Jinx, Tummyache, Opus Kink and Panic Shack.
I seen 4 bands on TKASG stage, SNAYX who were better yesterday than at Twisterella, Lilo, Silvi who were both very good and the brilliant Panic Shack.
 
Does anyone know who played at the Georgian Theatre before Sleeper?
It was supposed to be Benefits but they moved to the 7PM slot. It wasn't Divorce. Was fronted by a woman in a shiny black pvc type dress. Even though she looked impressive it was probably the worst band of the day as it felt like there was a lot of backing music/singing going on.

I loved Ten Eighty Trees!! Thought they were great! Weathership we’re good to start the day off at NE Volume. TUMMYACHE were the best band of the day for me.

The Social Room is canny.. never been there before. Probably the closest well get to the Westgarth now that has closed.

Had a great day loads of good bands, venues people.. was struggling at the end mind. It’s a long day when your having a few pints at every venue. Was utterly flogged by the last two bands!!
