Stocktons a shiit'ole

It'll be pretty funny now if Cleverley has to row back and admit he did say it, after explicitly saying he didn't. What is it, one week into the job?

Or even funnier if someone else on the Tory front bench said it, and they're willing to let Cleverley just take the rap.

Someone needs to remind him who's been in power for the last 14 years to allow it to get so run down.
That's the point. That he said it is unprofessional, but how many citizens call our hometowns shitholes too? His response in the context of why are 34% of children in poverty is appalling. The follow up question direct to him should have been, 'why is it a ********?'. I suspect he would have a harder time answering that after 14 years of Tory government.

Comments in the Gazette are typically disgraceful. Big number fully agree with Cleverly- many others blaming the Labour council (the one starved of funds by the Tories!). Very hard to understand people’s hatred of those facing most disadvantage

Even if they agree, living in a '$hithole' does not mean poverty should just be accepted. There are loads of towns that aren't aesthetically pleasing.

The lovely Matt (my local MO) blocked me on Twitter - as has Lord Bent. I should be pleased.😊
I’m guessing Matt said Parmo, Lemon Top.. thumbs up. Super, smashing, great.. let’s see how a parmo tastes from Stockton North.. not as good as Stockton South I bet! Mega lolz etc

Lord Houchen? Maybe something about a conspiratorial leftist elite that are doing everything in their power to stop investment in the area and the creation of millions of full time permanent jobs?

He already did.
Not in the house he hasn’t. That is interesting because he hasn’t yet mislead Parliament. Labour need to keep pushing on this. Think he will admit when forced, apologise then ride out the sh*tstorm that follows

Making a comment like that is insulting enough but this situation is much worse; he was making light of increasingly high rates of child poverty.

I’ve recently started working in the Stockton area after having several years away and I cannot believe how it’s been allowed to get into the mess it’s in.

The business park used to be full of large companies that employed thousands of Teessiders and now it’s a sea of empty buildings and car parks. Which has also had a huge impact on the town centre and local economy. And for what reason? Greedy landlords that would rather buildings stay empty than reduce land rental rates…so those companies either offshored their business or moved to areas of the country with cheaper rates.

It’s depressing.

So to have some toffee nosed, privately educated whopper that’s never done a hard days work in his life, throw around comments and making light of the poverty that his party is essentially to blame, is infuriating.

This, 100%

The fact that child poverty is at such eye-watering levels is shameful and should cause Cleverly and the rest of them acute embarrassment.

To react in such a puerile way to the impoverishment of kids makes me sick.

Cleverly is denying he said it as one would expect.

Fact is, someone on the tory benches is refusing to step forward and acknowledge that it was their voice we heard, and take the opportunity to clarify what they said.

That speaks volumes about the sh house concerned, as well as those sh houses that sit around them.

Just a friendly word of warning here, newy. You need to be careful on Norton green. Those ducks aren't what they seem.
