They have been holding this over us for some time now and even their manager heckingbottom makes constant reference to is as well in after match interviews.
As it seems to have become something of a safety blanket for their stuttering form.

Well this week it will be gone and even if they win it they will still be as vulnerable in the tougher games with their patchy form but will no longer have the oh but we’ve still to play reading card.

Once that reading game is done we know exactly where we stand and the what the real gap is same for GD as well.

So from that point every game we will be chasing them down directly point for point.

Reading's home form is quite reasonable. Of course having watched the game yesterday, we would expect Sheffield to blow them away. Nothing is easy in this league.

.....or a Reading reaction. Getting battered - not just beat - 5-0, Ince will be expecting a massively improved performance.

The Championship, anything can happen on any day (although I would "expect" Sheff Utd to squeak it)

Until the 18th March when they play Blackburn in the FA Cup.
Those games have been rescheduled for 25th April.

So everyone will have 2 games left to play but they will have 3.

True but my point is that by making the reading game so significant means if they don’t capitalise on it then how will that effect them as well.

Must win for Utd midweek IMO

Would mean we need 3 games minimum to turn the deficit around

Fail to win and it`s down to 2 games to turn the deficit around, that is no safety blanket in my eyes

The chase is on

Just checked & the semi's are w/e 22nd April.

So winner of Sheff U v Blackburn will have 4 games to play in two weeks.

Reading’s home form is one of the best in the division -I think they said last night they are something like top 3 on home form and bottom on away. Not as easy as Sheff Utd might think - and they will have our keeper back

That Reading side couldn't beat Hartlepool Utd let alone Sheff Utd. I won't be holding my breath expecting a minor miracle tbf.

Even if Reading do respond to the drubbing we gave them, i still cant see it being enough, yet i’ll still be praying they can produce something. I hope Sheff Utd make it to the cup final too, after extra time and penalties in each round. The distraction and exertion of a cup run will hopefully impact.

Just looked and it doesn’t appear to be on tv. As sky are showing the Huddersfield and West Brom games.

Paul Mardybottom reckons United`s "mini-wobble" is a "blessing"!

Sheffield United mini-wobble no surprise as key point made after Blackburn loss

Mini-wobble is no surprise but Sheffield United have golden chance to dent Middlesbrough's hopes.

Sheffield United's match at Reading on Tuesday night has come as a 'blessing', according to manager Paul Heckingbottom

Yesterday's defeat at Blackburn Rovers means it is now three defeats in four in the league for Sheffield United, who are having the mini-wobble that inevitably comes with Championship football. Few teams in this division don't hit a sticky patch.

That's exactly where United are right now and it hasn't come as a surprise to Heckingbottom, who has warned for some time the gap to third will constantly change between now and May.

What was once a 10-point advantage three weeks ago is now down to four but Heckingbottom's men have a golden chance to address their slump at Reading on Tuesday night. A return to winning ways would see the gap extended back to seven and, similar to the last time Middlesbrough [] reduced it only to see it extended a week later, strike another blow to the chasing pack.

Destiny remains in United's hands and there will be no panic inside the dressing room.

Heckingbottom's approach won't change and he will handle defeat in the same way he has handled every one of the 19 wins that have come United's way this season.

The Blades boss feels his side has played worse than that and won matches this season. Few may agree with that, with yesterday's display among the poorest of the campaign, but that was the point he was keen to make before leaving Ewood Park.

With 12 matches remaining, it is all about points, no matter how they come and Heckingbottom knows Sheffield United must quickly get back on the horse at Reading.

Performance Comparison:

"Those performances come every so often," he explained to Yorkshire Live. "If we perform that way and win everyone is saying how good it is.

"That's why, when we are winning, I will speak about the performance and when we are losing I will speak about the performance. When we win, afterwards to you guys I may talk about the things we have done well but when we get back to Shirecliffe we still talk about the things we need to do better.

"We constantly do it. We have had a lot more like that this season. We have played worse than that and won games. We have. I know you may not think so, but we have.

"What I don't want to do is lose games. That's the problem. It's all about the points at this stage of the season.

"We have done great to this point, but we need to make sure we do even better on Tuesday and the good thing is that, that we have another game in three days.

"That's a blessing you always get in this league and we have to put that right."

5th best. They have the 2nd worst away record, and looked like it.

Better than Millwall, Norwich, Watford and WBA at home.

Reading have more home wins than SU have away wins. Surely they'll start as favourites?😉

Shame this game isn't on sky. The other two games of the night are on redbutton or sky football.

But Reading have a very good home record and Sheffield are shocking away at the moment so they is a chance

the prices on the game, as it stands right now is 5/2 reading 7/2 the draw and evens Sheff Utd.

This gives utd a 50% implied chance of getting 3 points. By midweek, I expect those prices to come together a bit more. So its even money, right now that Utd drop points. Hardly a shock.

The problem is by building this game up as their saviour, as he has done what happens if they do lose or drop points in it.
