And pays no tax in the UK on foreign income. Perfectly legal but sticks in he throat a bit when he's putting up tax and refusing to offer meaningful help with the cost of living.

One rule for them, one rule for us...

As you say perfectly legal and I'm not even sure it qualifies as "tax avoidance" in this instance. Sounds like it's more to do with the fact she's Indian and can't have dual nationality? But I'm no expert and would be interested to see if her non dom status is the same for the majority of other Indians living here.

Of course what it does do is underline yet again just how wildly out of touch Sunak is with the general population. How can someone who doesn't even know how to use a bank card to pay for fuel understand what people need to live on?

He and his family live on a different planet. The decisions he makes won't remotely affect him or indeed anyone he knows I'm sure. He treats his job as if it's a theoretical case study as part of a dissertation. That's about as "real" as it gets for him. No surprise then he has **** all empathy for people or really care about the consequences as long as the numbers are heading in the direction he wants.

Not sure what the story is here, Indian person marries Great British person and pays Tax on her GB earning to GB but not her overseas earning.
I think you know what the story is. Indian billionaire marries British billionaire who just happens to be the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

A Chancellor who prefers to hold money back for a pre-election tax cut bribe in 2 years time rather than helping people now.

there is no story... just more Tory haters using it to bash anyone who isn't Labour.

Well there clearly is a story as the right wing press are pushing it as hard as the left wing press.

Enjoy seeing friends and family struggle do you while the Sunak's donate to public schools?

it’s another window of opportunity for the old boys on here to vent their spleen 🤣🤣🤣

You can only be non-dom if the UK isn't your permanent home. That means the Chancellor's wife is going to leave him and move abroad, or the Chancellor is going with her and is therefore defining the long-term future of our country when he has no intention of hanging around for the consequences, or she's committing tax fraud.

He’s in the second highest office in the land and we are expected to believe that his wife doesn’t have her main residence here?

Yeah right!

More Tory lies and more useful idiots queuing up to defend the indefensible while normal folk choose between feeding their kids or keeping warm.

Disgusting

Nimesh Shah, chief executive of the accountancy firm Blick Rothenberg, said that Murty’s non-dom status was a choice. “If you state in a tax return that your intention is to live in the UK and you’re not going to go back to your country of origin, you will be considered British for tax purposes and you’ll lose your domicile of origin,” he said.

The Chancellor is setting tax rules and budgets for everyone when his family don't intend on sticking around to see the damage.

Rishi Sunak and his wife may not be doing anything illegal but everything about him and his families business and tax arrangements make him utterly unsuitable for the role of Chancellor of the Exchequer.

The laws around this are complicated but basically she is indicating (choice) that she will not remain in the UK and will not renounce her Indian citizenship to become a UK national (India doesn’t allow duel citizenship).

But at year 15 she could then do the above and therefore have benefitted from 15 years of reduced taxation, which is the immoral part of all this and too easy for the mega rich to do.

But at the same time Jacob Rees-Mogg pays no tax on his earnings from the Cayman Islands using another immoral method. Tories be Tories.
