Sunderland 0 Sheffield Wednesday 2.

Did have a quick look at RTG there was a thread discussing what SOL would look like with the extra tier all the way round and how many it would hold...
That would mean printing an extra 15000 free tickets every home game though 😳

Used to hate them but they are becoming more of an irrelevance to me. Grey little club in a grey miserable city. Just glad for the guaranteed points from them next season.

I wouldn't be so generous as to describe any of their performers as "top", although it's probably relative. It seems the sacking of Tony Mowbray was akin to Birmingham sacking Eustace. What's happened to football? Some of these "owners" couldn't organise a raffle.

It’s incredible, isn’t it? Living in a bubble.

I genuinely feel sorry for Sunderland. I'm sure they're a majority of good salt of the earth people, but there is an element amongst them that live with perpetual vitriol and it all stems from their hatred of everything Newcastle. It poisons them and their outlook on everything and everyone.

You only have to see how much they hate certain managers they've had (if you think our -mainly light-hearted- ridicule of Wilder is bad, its tame compared to how they feel about a dozen managers they've had over the past 10 years or so). They hate their owners whoever they happen to be at the time, they hate their managers, they hate most of their own players, season after season. They also have a hatred for clubs like Luton for knocking them out of the play offs, they hate Wycombe for being placed above them by the EFL during the abandoned Covid season, and they hate Coventry for something that happened 50 years ago.

I'm so glad we don't have have that kind of mentality. Its unhealthy. But then again, their vitriol all stems from being in the shadow of all things Newcastle as mentioned, whereas our "rivalry" is more of a p!ss-taking one rather than pure hatred.

They're a club/city to be made fun of, not hated imo.

How do people rate Jack Clarke?

I heard some Sunderland claims he was the best player in the division pre-christmas, but his form seems to have fallen off a cliff since Mogga left.

I think Clarke is good, but then again anyone with an ounce of talent will stand out a mile in their squad, since its average at best.

Clarke is their version of Isaiah Jones, but admittedly Clarke scores more goals.

The mackems relied on him so much this season, he's going to be a massive loss to them when he goes.

They are in an absolute mess. The running of that club seems strange at best. The decision to sack Mogga is still baffling.

The difference between us in them in terms of positivity and momentum is almost polar opposites. We have a summer of genuine excitement. They must be dreading what's going to happen.

Hope so.
The more stress and unhappiness weighing down on those narrow little mackem shoulders the better.

I think you have nailed it here.
You get the feeling with them they have this sense of huge injustice and that they should be competing with the elite clubs of England'

Their hatred of Newcastle is so toxic.

Not really. Mogga told the owners a few home truths about what was needed for recruitment and they didn't like it.

Unpopular opinion, but I think they'll do alright next season, perhaps even play offs. I base this around a hunch that I have that they'll get Steve Cooper as manager in the summer.

For Cooper to go to Sunderland he would want his own backroom staff.

The players simply are not good enough to compete at the top end and he would want some guarantee of decent recruitment, of which the owners will not produce.

Wouldn’t surprise me if he gets offered a relegated club.

Can’t see it

Agree, can't see Cooper going there - he'll see how Mowbray was treated due to stating more & better recruitment was needed to progress the club & he'll realise he'd be better off waiting for a club that will - start off - with genuine chance of playoffs / promotion & decent squad already in place.. than take on Sunderland..
