Surely when in a private conversation

Settle down boys I'm merely stating a fact.

I bet you've both done and said things that would be deemed inappropriate in your lifetime
I certainly have, used to get invited to the top table to lower the tone. Once sat next to Kenneth Baker because they thought I'l cause offence. But I've never been in the police force.

with your mates you can say whatever you want, no matter how offensive it may be if said in public?

Are you mad, or stuck in the 80’s? It was in their employers workplace, which is paid for by the taxpayer! They’re in public roles ffs, as public servants, and should be setting the highest standards, which they’re paid to do. Im glad somebody at their workplace rightfully complained (well done to them).

This thread is even more reason why this crap should be punished more severely, as if people still think casual racism and sexism, even amongst “mates”, is ok in some instances. It’s not.

There’s no end to this anytime soon, people’s dated views and opinions often won’t change. All we can do is punish them and teach their kids better, and wait until their dated viewpoint is generationally diluted.

I'm not condoning what they said, the point I was trying to make (not very well, obviously!) was that no matter where they were, it was a private conversation. They have been less than private in the past (hence the whistleblower) so in that respect got what they deserved, it's the bugging of private conversations that doesn't sit well.

It was part of an investigation? They don’t just randomly bug

They’ve probably got little right to a private conversation, especially of that nature, in work time and in work offices though. Racism is crime, and so could be sexism (I think), especially if others could take offence and nobody could guarantee their “mates” wouldn’t take offence.

As for the bugging of private conversations, I’m not that fussed, no matter where it is, even in private places. If people are suspected of committing crimes, inciting hate then they deserve everything they get.

For me, I would even go one further, but a lot wouldn’t. I would prefer it if everyone was tracked, had an i.d card and had e-mails and texts scanned. I think it would cut down crime and hate, and the intrusion would be next to nothing for law abiding and good people.

Yeah, well said, and get the Thought Police division going too

You are correct, I have seen the error of my ways.
