Tav

Any of the centre midfield positions or wide forward positions he’s a better player than any of them
I don't agree. His best position is as a #8. Wilder got the absolute best out of Tav by playing him there. O'Neil seems to be playing him everywhere: appears to have been a right wing-back in the last match and got subbed off after 70 minutes.

We don't play with a #8 under Carrick. McGree and Ramsey are both more creative than Tav and, Ramsey in particular, offers more goal threat. Tav is far better defensively than both of them and, arguably, could cover for Giles far more effectively.

I don't think he has quite the game intelligence needed to play the #6 role that Hackney and Howson do. I think he would get caught out of position and not always pick the right pass.

I reckon his second-best position is as an inverted winger on the right. I think he would be excellent in Forss's role though I doubt he would have scored half the goals that Forss has there.

He would be a fantastic option to have but I don't see him as a nailed on starter. I think he would be likely to play when we wanted more defensive stability up-front. He has proved he's Premier league standard and I suspect that McGree and Ramsey will as well. Let's face it, if we could pick from Archer, Akpom, Forss, Tav, McGree and Ramsey in the Championship, we really could smash the league. (And that's not counting Jones who could still come back strong.)

I disagree that he’s a better attacking player than Forrs, McGree or Ramsey.
He scored 15 goals in all his years here.
Forrs already has 10 goals playing out of position and Ramsey has 5 in 11 games.
I loved his energy but attacking wise he was often wasteful imo and frequently held onto the ball too long.
Maybe with the better players that we have now, he’d flourish in an attacking position. But his goals/assists were not sufficient enough to say he is a better option than what we currently have playing in the 3, in my opinion.

He’s got the energy for the 2 holding roles and carries the ball well, but I don’t think he tackles/reads the game well enough to do Howsons role and Hackney is potentially a better all round footballer and prospect, I think.

Ultimately though, I think Tav would have done much better playing alongside the proper footballers we have now, but I don’t understand this obsession we have to take half decent players who have left and then say they are better than anything we currently have, when the team is playing so well and is full of talent.

He’s been excellent for Bournemouth in every position he’s played and their fans love him. He’s improved. I’d expect he would play excellent in any position for us too. We have some excellent players but our fans underrate Tav. The lad was unreal.

It’s not an obsession it’s an opinion based on how good he is performing in the premier league. He’s a class act.

Seemed a massive loss at the start of the season, but as others say it is a measure of what Carrick has done that I don’t think he would make our starting 11 now. Similarly if someone had told me at the start of the season that Crooks and Jones would be only bit part players I would have been very worried. Funny game to predict!

I didn't see our season panning out how it did - I expected Wilder to stay & have us playing really good positive football & be up there pushing the promotion positions... I thought Tav was wrong to pick Bournemouth & in many ways I still think it's a poor move. They play pretty much all of the other clubs around them in the run in with Everton away last game of the season, 2 or 3 wins should be enough, though if it goes to the last day.. [ Southampton, Leicester & Forest / Everton for me ]

Hypotheticals though I'd have imagined Carrick getting the best out of him, always an optimist :-D & he'd have been a big plus for us, we lacked his energy in midfield under Wilder & I believe he'd have really been an asset under MC..

O'Neill doing well & has them playing some decent football, in the few highlights a week, I see of them..

I still think Tav would be one of the first picks on the team sheet under Carrick, I think he'd thrive and be a prefect fit for the style.

But then that would have prevented the emergence if HH, so it's all good, glad Tav is doing so well, never doubted he wasn't good enough for the PL, albeit I'm not sure right wing back is his best position!
