The Benefits of drinking filtered water

So, I contributed to the thread a week or two ago about being over 50 and all our aches and pains (!) that we all shared.

My Mrs has been drinking the recommended 2.7 litres water daily for over a year. She did some research recently though and recognised that that impurities in tap water (such as fluoride to name but one) actually impede the benefits of drinking - so we bought a Brita water filter.

She's been trying to convince me to drink more water for such a long time.

So, I had some mild knee pain suddenly develop over Xmas period which stopped me jogging and was painful just to get out of bed until I got 'it' going/flexing through the day. Weird.
I have also recently developed finger stiffness through the night meaning when I wake up for the loo I needed to flex them several times to get them 'loose' again and the same in the morning ! WTF. !
And have been having regular 'gout' flare ups in my toes and ankles.
So, I could basically see me starting to break down physically which isn't very nice - it affects your mental health I believe or it had done with me.

As my wife explained the filtered water was worth a try - I read a things online and how it benefits joints, tissue and muscles by lubricating them and keeping them elastic and ensures your circulatory system works well. A natural way of looking after oneself.

I therefore took the decision 15 days ago to give it a try and have been drinking 4 litres of filtered water each day. (i've never been to the toilet more mind!)
I try to drink the 4 litres before 1-2pm.
I can honestly say that, say here today, over the last 4-5 nights my finger pain through the night has gone completely. My knee pain after14 days drinking has reduced by over 80% at least. I don't even think about it when I get out of bed to go to the loo in the last 4-5 nights.
I'm astounded.
My diet has improved as I am eating less processed food and my wife has been doing me a huge pot of med veg with bulgar wheat and quinoa to eat across 7 days. But we still have a weekly takeaway and pop to the pub for a couple every week.
So, i've improved my diet but i'm not a saint.

I just wanted to share my experience with all you folks experiencing aches and pains and think that there is nothing that can reasonably be done. Honestly folks, if you have the commitment (and pain should provide that commitment to potentially reverse it) then give it a go.

We only drink filtered water, even in tea, coffee etc. Too many issues with the water companies to risk anything else imo.

It definitely improves tea and coffee. We kind of fell in to using filtered water when we got an American fridge with an inline filter. Tap water tastes awful in comparison. Bonus is the kids love helping themselves to the filtered water too.

I suspect that is more to do with diet than filtered water. But well done you.
Honestly, i'm a chocholic and a crisp nut! I haven't changed a huge amount with my food - it is definitely the water easing early arthritic signs and gout issues.

I think you're probly right, read a lot of similar stuff with regard to crohns & ulcerative colitis treatments - all to do with inflammation & upsetting the immune system

Sounds like the benefits of drinking more water rather than filtered water specifically
No, unfiltered water - drank in those kind of quantities can be really bad for you - given the subtle chemicals in them...like too much fluoride is really not good for you - it can CAUSE joint issues and gastro issues !

Always always used a Brita water filter but we live in Hertfordshire where the water is at its hardest. Without a filter the kettle would fur up in weeks fir example.

What do you think these filters are filtering? Do they say what and how they work?

Go the whole hog and drink only distilled or dimineralised water. 100% pure H2O. The only downside is that it will dilute the electrolytes in your body, which could eventually kill you.

“Impurities” 🙄🙄

When I lived in Ingleby the water wasn’t nice at all I had to use a filtered tap . Probably not a coincidence there was a tap previously set up I recommissioned.

A recent unsung benefit is how much more exercise you will do finding somewhere to recycle your filters. Sainsbury's and Tesco don't take them any more. It seems like Robert Dyas is the only seller still taking them. Ballache for me as I have to battle through the crowds of central London.

About 3 years ago, I decided to cut out all soda's and dilute with water drinks. I stick now only to tea and sparkling water. I do 2 litres per day and it has made a huge difference to how I feel, my diet and regulated my sleeping patterns. Best thing I ever did.

Agree on the toilet frequency mind 🚽

I changed my diet over a year ago, no alcohol, lots of smoothies and water ( non filtered mainly) still eat too much sugar though, mainly cakes and biscuits lol.

Didn't actually notice much difference for first three months then suddenly realised I was sleeping much better and losing weight. Now I'm 2 stone lighter 6 inches slimmer and wearing jeans I would have last fit in when I was a teenager. I'm nearly 50.

Yes getting up 3/4 times a night to pee is the only downside. Sleep quality is still much better overall though.

This is more nonsense conspiracy quackery.

Brita filters don't even remove fluoride. It took me 2 seconds on Google to find that out.
I obviously got the fluoride wrong but it removes other stuff that appears harmful if drinking in larger quantities, which I am doing.
Conspiracy quackery ?
🤣
