The booing of Jordan Henderson

I think the OP is right in saying it’s not hard to understand why some did chose to boo him and that it’s poor judgment for Southgate to declare he doesn’t understand their reason…

The argument over whether people should or shouldn’t is different, and ultimately it’s up to the individual…

Can you honestly say you don’t understand how some are upset at Henderson’s hypocrisy at playing in Saudi after his past stance on certain rights?

He was pants, way off the pace, he looked like someone who had been plucked from a pub team. He was past it anyway but now he’s past it and semi retired.

Henderson’s a hypocrite and Southgate is a coward for not being brave enough to cut him from the squad. Similar issues with Maguires continued inclusion.

Southgate by his comments expects everything to be forgotten when you pull on the England shirt, unfortunately he should know that it doesn’t work like that. By the very inclusion of Henderson he’s put him in this situation where he’s getting booed by his own fans.

Ridiculous to boo your own player.

Good luck to him if he can earn that cash, it is short career.

A model pro.

I am with Southgate.

I’d have booed him - and he isn’t my own player.
He has made a mockery of his support for gay rights

Some things are bigger than football

I understand your position.
I hope its easy to understand mine

Then we are ok to respect the decision each of us have come to but be free to disagree with each other

Southgate is anything but a coward. It takes more bravery to go against the mob and defend an unpopular decision than it does to simply bow down to those that want Henderson or any other player dropped.

Haven't time to read responses above so likely this has already been said:

Never boo your own players or even opposition players, it shows a complete lack of class.

However, Henderson shouldn't be in the England squad. He's essentially semi-retired now and will only be getting slower and older now. If Phillips is fit enough to be on the bench last night then he was crying out for minutes and can still be a big part of England's future if he gets games.

I don’t agree, he’s a coward for not making the decision that needs to be made nothing to do with mob pressure, the decision should have been made regardless. He’s too close to Henderson and not seeing it objectively. I’ve always deemed Gareth a very moral individual the inclusion of Henderson casts a stain on that image. A captain or vice captain should be setting an example to younger players not selling their morals and then attempting to gaslight the country over the reasons.

Know what else shows a lack of class? Selling your soul after being someone who looked to have morals and was part of campaigns supporting certain groups and campaigns. Now he’s gone to a country that is the exact opposite of that for money. And when interviewed about his reason for going there he lies.

I don't think Southgate has made the right decision, but it definitely isn't the easier decision.

The easier decision would have been to drop him when he left the premierleague. Would have been an easy conversation and this issue wouldnt be present.

If there was a football case for his inclusion it might be understandable, after last night it is plain that there isn't.

His hypocrisy over taking the Saudi blood money is another thing altogether and it is difficult to know if you personally could turn down a huge donation to your retirement fund? But he is showing his age, by the time we play in the Euros he will have been playing in a sub standard league (compared to PL, BL, etc.) for some time, he should not be playing for England particularly in a relatively meaningless friendly.
