The end?

Not for the faint hearted.

ukrainian soldiers taking russian prisoners after clearing positions mear bakhmut, and one decided he didnt want to surrender and detonated a grenade.

.
Brutal, and what for? The insane fantasy of a lunatic. I feel so much hurt, anger and fear for the Ukrainians but also for many (not all) of the Russians fighting a crazy, senseless war they have no real heart to fight, led by propaganda and their own fears and blackmail.

Heartbreaking.

What for ? Because a relic from the past can’t accept that Russia isn’t an empire anymore

Well I suppose they still are , as they rule Chechnya , but they aren’t as big as they want their empire to be

I'd advise against watching any of that type of footage. It ought not to be published really. Seeing people actually losing their lives is neither educational nor entertaining. Potentially harmful to the viewer too.

It's not a video game...

listened to a great podcast about this the other day, the guy explains a bit of russian history, collapse of empire, and some of the reasons their society is how it is (apolitical) and how putin is the leader - give a good perspective on how they got to the current state of affairs

Why are we posting footage of dead people on a message board?

We have all sorts of people on this site (mainly over 50s men) but kids can click and view that.
Agreed. Let’s be sensible about this. Plenty of really intense clips out there to demonstrate what the UKR forces are enduring without that level of grimness.

I would suggest removing/editing that post, and ask everyone to think really hard about what they link to.

Let’s stick to

Thank you JohnMFC.

I think hard about stuff I post possibly being seen as in bad taste like the NAFO crew & Crimean Beach Party 2024 as I’m not sure casual observers of this thread will be as invested in this thing, but know they have been adopted/welcomed by the UKR people and figure it’s ok.

Clips like you posted are in a proper environment just as right to be put out there by the UKR forces and it’s our individual choice to watch or not..

Keep adding to this thread mate.

Please do not post videos that contain that level of violence/grimness. We can find it if we want to. Indeed, I ended up watching it this afternoon and was unprepared for it.
We know war is truly awful, we don't need to see it like that on here.
Thank you.

And thanks Johnmfc for removing it.
Absolutely, we need fact, but not graphics too. There are vulnerable eyes on the board and there are several ways to skin the cat.

Thanks, but I won't be contributing to the thread any longer.

I would kindly ask you to reconsider.
What has made this thread one of the best threads(even though it is about one of the worst possible subjects) is the wide and varied knowledge on the subject, the healthy debate and the respect of other people opinions in those debates(even though my opinion is always the correct one, obviously 😂).
I think the uncertainty comes with this war being one of the first if not the first High Definition major conflict, where the footage and information part of the conflict play a major role, but this uncharted territory creates a moral dilemma for the average person and how they handle this information.
My personal way of handling it is I don't actively seek this footage but at the same time I often come across it on social media whilst reading for the latest news on the conflict and I feel a sort of moral duty not to shy away from the footage as not become detached from the realities of war. The worst part of all this is these people, who less than 2 years ago where just like me and you and everyone on this board, are now killing and dying in the name of man made borders on the ambitions and greed of rich and powerful people.

I apologise if the post upset people, I didn't think of younger readers, when I posted it. Easy to forget i guess. In defence though I did give a warning of its graphic nature, and it was also on the twitter link too. The choice to watch was yours in the end. But I will take your advice and be more sensitive with the content I share.

I do agree that it is horrific, but I kind of thought it was useful because there is so much disinformation, about how ukrainian military handle pows, and this showed that actually they treat them with some humanity, which they may in the heat of battle feel they don't deserve. But it also highlighted the danger they face in doing so.
