The 'Marton Crawl'

Just announced some funding for a new highway scheme to improve traffic on Marton Road. Also some cycle routes from Guisbrough to surrounding areas. This is from the government levelling up fund.
Some good news for commuters.

£20 million investment in the Newham Grange highway scheme will unlock 800 homes in Middlesbrough, while new pedestrian and cycle tracks will better connect Guisborough town centre to Teesworks and the North York Moors National Park.

Much as I'd like Teesside to get some kind of Metro system, 20m wouldn't touch the sides of what would be needed for that.
With working from home, and the decline of town centres nationally, I'm not holding my breath for that happening.

I don't live on Teesside now, but I go down MArton Road with my dad on match days: couldn't help but notice what a mess the road surface is in. I assume this is because it's so busy they can't close it to do necessary repairs?

They've got the money to repair it now, along with a few trimmings that's where it will go as far as Martin Road goes for that amount of cash

I do hope they bring cyclists and drivers together to review these infrastructure projects. Increasingly I see cycle routes put in place that are just awfully thought out and are avoided by cyclists as they slow the journey/ end up full of dog walkers/ pedestrians.

It has been patched and re-patched with temporary resurfacing over recent years.

These things are pretty cool.
Big investment, but huge benefits for the local communities, shoppers, commuters.
They reduce car use considerably, make house-buying near the trams a selling point, keep local taxi prices down, connect all local transport hubs and main railway stations, make travelling almost seemless and leave the stress to the driver, not the traveller.
Would take political will and planning - but they are all over Europe.
We are like the dark ages compared to Europe.

Platforms are at the same level as tram entrance: no steps, no ups or downs. People with motability scooters, prams, wheelchairs get on and off with no problems.

You got a link?

I imagine the Doyle’s at the council, who through bad planning and lack of foresight caused the problem, will spunk the money doing something similar to the linthorpe Road mess
