Each way first 5 1/5 odds. Not bad 5/1 for a 5th place.I’ve backed 4 this year, all each way:
cameron Smith
Xander Schauffler
John Rahm
Patrick Cantlay
It's never really rock hard these days because it's irrigated. I think it's been allowed to dry a bit this year to keep the scores up a bit though. It'll be a test of who can it straight off the tee, into the right places, and hit medium and short irons close. And because the greens are so big, it'll be someone who is a consistently good putter.Oosthuizen has a good record around St Andrews. Maybe Tiger if he keeps going for four days. Looks like you will need a sense of humour with the good and bad bounces as the course is rock hard this year! Proper links.
Schauffele - I think he's won his last three starts hasn't he. Must be a good shout.Xander Schauffler is definitely in with a shout, he is flying this year.
You have to watch this bet. I did this with Bet365 a few years ago. It is ok if your player finishes 5th on his own. If three players finish 5th then the 5/1 is divided by three, four players finish 5th then 5/1 is dived by 4 etc! Each way first 5 1/5 odds. Not bad 5/1 for a 5th place.
You not played Cleveland or seaton Carew. Links golf will truly test any golfer of any handicapI think this every year, and I know I'm a probably a minority in this line of thinking, but I don't get the attraction with St Andrews, it looks like a boring course to me, and always looks parched.
Obviously I appreciate there's a history to it and I'm sure it's different when you play there mind, if you're an absolute golf nut, but for an average 15-25 capper who just likes playing, and not so much watching, then I imagine playing this would be quite forgettable compared to some of the more picturesque courses.
I hope Rory can stay in contention till the last day, or some of the other British lads, and hoping a US player doesn't win it.
No, I've not unfortunately, in fact I'm not even sure if I've played a links course. I do intend to though, and will travel to play more when I'm older I expect. You not played Cleveland or seaton Carew. Links golf will truly test any golfer of any handicap
Cleveland is one of the best courses in the area without a doubt. I was a member 4 years ago and it was immaculateNo, I've not unfortunately, in fact I'm not even sure if I've played a links course. I do intend to though, and will travel to play more when I'm older I expect.
I've played mostly parkland in the UK, and quite a few courses in the desert in the US.
To be fair mind, I'm a fair weather golfer so only play in summer and play other sports in winter. I couldn't think of anything worse than being blown about on the coast on a summers day, when I could be sweating my nuts off trying to find my ball in the trees at my normal course
Yeah I've heard it's in good nick, and some of the golf nuts I know say it's great. I've only been a member of parkland courses and quite liked being a member at Teesside in the summer, but it wasn't great in Autumn/ Spring (wet), but that was going back a few years. I suppose the links courses will always drain better being largely overlain on sand, rather than the clay we have on our parkland courses round here. Suppose that's better for winter, but not for summer.Cleveland is one of the best courses in the area without a doubt. I was a member 4 years ago and it was immaculate
Matt Fitzpatrick brother got the course record around that time Too
Played Cleveland once about 35 years ago and lost 12 balls. You not played Cleveland or seaton Carew. Links golf will truly test any golfer of any handicap
