Its that time again>>>>>

Its almost the end of the regular season and almost all Boro fans are thinking about, is whether we need to book hotels for the Wembley Play-Off Final and the dates for the semi`s. We dont know who it will be (?), but what if its us an the Mackems? What will London look like with the Skunks playing a Prem game the following day?! The mind boggles - there might be no beer left in London, but there might be more than just a few sore heads after. But more of all that next week, when we will know [almost] for certain, who`s going to be our opponents.

Today`s game is not going to be where we cruise through said Michael Carrick in his recent Media Conference. Momentum is important for the team, not just in performances or even necessarily in results [looking back at Luton] but in the attitude, the confidence and belief the players have in themselves. The performance against Luton was "high" but Carrick was still "bitterly disappointed" in the final result. Lets not get complacent. The next two league games are as important as any other. Like Carrick said last week, its not time to take our foot off the gas. He wont be "rushing" to get injured players back for the Rotherham game. With an eye on Coventry and the play-offs, its important to be ready. He explained that`s why Akpom and Hackney were rested against Luton to give them time to "refresh".

Rotherham are fighting for their lives and they wont be a push-over. They`ve shown they can beat anyone on their day - non more than when they took all three points form the blades earlier in the season at Bramley Lane. There`s a few players we know well in the Millers shirt - Lee Peltier, Jordan Hugill and Grant Hall. There are also a number of threats from the likes of Connor Coventry, Richard Wood, Chiedozie Ogbene and Sean Morrison.

Thankfully, for the lads from Teesside, Rotherham means a late lie-in, being just over an hour down the A19, but its an early start and one we look forward to.

Lets keep it going and look forward to what`s to come.

Up The Mighty Boro!

"We`ve got to be at our best, with the right edge and a real spark about us. Its not just an end-of-season cruise through"

Carrick was asked about Martin Payero, his thoughts on the Luton penalty, momentum going into the play-offs, injuries and advice he would give to young players>>>>

What Lessons has Carrick learnt from his first "season" in charge?

Ive got a really terrific group of players, a great football club, good people, that I enjoy working here, if that`s the biggest thing. I`ve relished the opportunity and made the most of it. Obviously, along the line, how I deal with certain situations in this position I`m in and that certain decisions have got to be made. I thinks its a lot of little things you learn along the way.

Rotherham?

Its a proper game. A real game of football. The cut and thrust end of the season and they`ve got a huge amount to play for. They`ve done ever so well over recent months…..it`l be a big challenge for us. They`re desperate for the points and we`re relishing ..….to have a game that`s got so much on it: not so much for us directly, but we`ve got to be at our best, with the right edge and a real spark about us. Its not just an end of season cruise-through.

Form going into the play-offs?

I think momentum`s important. You can get it from performances…..confidence [and] from results. Sometimes for the confidence and belief the result…….is not the be-all and end-all. [You need]…..good rhythm and good standards…..[which] is what we took from Monday night at Luton. To go there and play like we did, we took a lot from that. So we look to build on that…….bitterly disappointed we didn’t win and we`l be approaching the [Rotherham] game exactly the same. Its the game we want to win, thew performance at the highest level….keep building and pushing as much as we can. [We will] treat it like any other game when we get there. There`s still a lot of training and football to be played…….so until then, we are trying to get better.

Luton penalty?

[A big smile came across his face] I hadnt even thought of that…..I`ve not given it a second thought…..its one of them [penalties]. I think we`ve all seen it and seen what it was!

Injuries?

Still got one or two. We`re hoping to get one or two back in and around the group this week if we can. Its a decision whether we push them for Monday, or whether we are a little bit more careful is the decision we`ve got to make. It wont be everyone back at all by any stretch, so we`l just make the most of what we can. [We`ve] got to be sensible. There`s no point rushing someone back for this [Rotherham] game.

Martin Payero?

He`s still on loan at this moment in time until the summer, so thats another decision [with] talks ongoing of what the next step is. At this moment in time I have`nt got an update, but he`s due to come back in the summer. [Is it Bocca`s decision if he comes back?] Its a bit of both really at this moment, so we`re just trying to work out what`s best for all of us.

Advice to young players?

I say it to the boys….make the most of it lads, because careers go quick. You think, early 20`s I`ve got ages left. Mid 20s, late 20s, [thinking] I`m alright and all of a sudden you know you`re 30 and you`re looking at a different chapter in your life and career and you`ve got to make the most of every single day. People said it to me when I was younger and you`re like yeah, yeah, yeah….I`ve got ages and its just the old man talking again. Now I`m the `old man`…..!

Players to Watch Out For - Rotherham:

Sean Morrison.
After a ten year tenure with the Bluebirds, the experienced defender, now 32, has played for Reading, Swindon and Huddersfield Town.

1682928419887.png
Connor Washington.
Second top scorer with six goals this season. With 35 caps for Northern Ireland and experience in the Premiership, he plays as a forward but is also able to drop back to help out his team mates. He was in the Blades team which won Premiership promotion under Chris Wilder.

Richard Wood.
Rotherham Captain.
Now 38, the much travelled defender has played the last nine years for the Millers.
He has also played for neighbours Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry City and Charlton and made a number of Wembley appearances for his different clubs through the play-offs.
Last season he played 45 games and got his hands on the Papa-Johns Trophy with Rotherham.

Chiedozie Ogbene.
Top scorer with 9 goals and 4 assists.
Beginning his career with the Everton Youth Team, he moved to Eire, playing for Cork City and Limerick.
Having had a hard time at Brentford, he joined the Millers and has worked hard to sustain his place in the first team.
He`s a tryer and one to watch out for today!

Flashback:
Rotherham 1 Boro 2

[Smith]_____________[Assombalonga. Mikel]
5th May 2019
Boro experienced a terrible run-in to the end of Tony Pulis last season, pulling up one point short behind Mel Morris`s Derby County.
It was a brave attempt, but we were very inconsistent and that`s why we didnt quite make it. It was a time of transition. Only Johnny Howson remains of those on the bench and in the starting line up! [Correction - and McNair. Thanks to Coluka - I must put me specs on next time]

As a 17yo I went to Rotherham new year's day 1966 with a dreadful hangover to see us beaten 4-1 which made me feel even worse as the day went on. My parents had gone to stay elsewhere on new year's eve so I'd had the brilliant idea of inviting all and sundry round for a party at mine....big mistake: vomit all over the place, ciggy burns on furniture, neighbours complaining about noise etc . Felt too ill to try and clean up properly before my lift turned up for the match so I knew I'd get a right bollocking from my parents when I got home - and I did
