The Silence Of The Bangs

Well I quite enjoyed my walk to the bus stops tonight, might have ducked a couple of times for no reason, buses didn't come so I boozed locally, and enjoyed it. And I enjoyed listening to and watching the fireworks early evening.

Or your dad was a greedy git and wouldn't buy you a packet of sparklers. ;)

We had an hour here in the Normanby area of bangs and cracks but nothing like it normally is.

That was the main reason, but Guy Fawkes in particular was also rapidly anti-Scottish and wanted to derail King James' plan to unify the two kingdoms as one and reverse the influx of Scots to roles in England (with King James himself obviously being Scottish too).
 
I went to a Catholic school and in primary part we learnt what it was about and celebrated it ourselves by buying fireworks and painting pictures of our bonfire evening. It was never an issue during my life.
Our old fella loathed buying us fireworks, during my childhood I worked and bargained with him for extra or more expensive clobber, bikes etc not your ordinary stuff , but by doing jobs, especially the ones he hated doing I generally got what I set out for. I became very proficient it all kinds of DIY well before leaving school. 😎

I learnt how to tap him over fireworks he hated them that much - "money gone in a puff of smoke" he would say. So my price went up to replace my firework pleasure. I miss him everyday. He was a great Dad and employer, occasional dispute over prices but in the main he caved in.
