The tide is turning

After reading a few threads on here, I think fans are falling out of love with NW.
We've seen it all before...Mogga and Karanka especially.

It's not a great way to end one season and hopefully progress (into the playoffs or above) next season.

It would be great if we can give him a chance to bring players in and see what happens.

Honestly, whats the alternative? - Rip it up and Start Again (in the words of the great Edwyn Collins)?

Football is becoming more and more short-termist, perhaps society in general is. I think people forget he hasn't even been here eleven months as yet. He's turned us from a team in 21st, to a team in play-off contention, to a team now 'merely' in the top 10.

I don't get why anyone is panicked about next season, what's the worst that could happen, 8th, 9th? I've no doubt at all we'll continue to improve season on season with Warnock at the helm. I don't by any means expect or demand promotion because there are going to be a few clubs with more money to spend. I hope that if we're in like 9th place in October people don't think we need to write the season off entirely and start again, but I sense that's how it might go.

Its all the more reason why Gibson is not keen on long term contracts and long term 'projects' anymore. Fans clearly don't have the patience for it despite claiming they do.

That's only because Warnock is of a different opinion to the usual suspects on here. Therefore he is wrong and has to be cancelled
Nailed it.

People are quick to forget where we were heading before Warnock came in. I don't know why people were expecting us to be promoted in his first full season in charge when he was left with a squad full of players who either didn't care or weren't up for a battle.

People may claim that Woodgate has done well at Bournemouth but that's a group of players who were playing premiership football last season who were only relegated because they didn't sack Howe when they should have.

The hilarious thing is they sacked Tindall when they were sixth. Where did Woodgate finish? Sixth!

I'm happy to give Warnock another full season and see how we go.

Doesn't mean I agree with everything he has done or said but I can't really be bothered with yet another manager coming in for half a season and having rebuild after rebuild.

I just hope we don't get 8 or 9 players on lengthy contracts that warnock rates but the next manager in might really not want and we're in a pulis/woodgate situation all over again in a seasons time.

That isn't really down to warnock though, more gibbo and I hope he's learnt some lessons from recent times.

If we do get these 8/9 players in you can bet your bottom dollar some will be short-term, some will be frees and one or two will be season-long loans. I can't think of anyone, realistic, that we could sign that would be so desirable we'd need to give them a big wage for 4 years. If we didn't learn our lessons from Britt/Fletcher, Covid should put paid to that sort of deal regardless.

More than happy for him to have another season but feel like some of his decisions are definitely questionable but I know on FMTTM you aren’t allowed to challenge people’s decisions as that makes you a bed wetter, you have to have blind faith until we are relegated and only then can you start to see if something needs changing.

Since January he’s had his own players (some very good players at this level too) and we’ve gone backwards pretty quickly. Don’t think anyone was expecting promotion, but it’s almost relegation form we’ve had for the last 4 months. We have absolutely no evidence he can turn this around or be trusted to spend money on players who will benefit us long term. Fans are right to be questioning him.
The last 4 months are just as bad as what woodgate had

Hmm, if you're referring to his Boris comments, I don't think that's true. One or two on that thread might have said they want him gone based on those comments. No more than that.

Far more have been questioning him before he made that comment based on team selection and performances. I think a lot is fair comment too. Picking Britt and not playing the youngsters for example. The honeymoon period is over but doesn't mean people want him gone. Just means they might not think the sun shines out of his arsene as much as they did.

I don't like what he said, but I'm happy he's staying. It's effectively a 2 year project, we're halfway through. Be mad to rip it up now. He's got the experience, he's got the knowledge and is confident we've got a very good chance. Let's see what happens.

I can only speak for myself but his political comments disappointed me and I would have been equally disappointed had he used an mfc press conference to bang labour's drum. Its devisive and he had, as far as I am aware no expertise or inside information to express his opinion. I feel the same about anyone using a public platform to support any political party.

And how many of those players did we actually buy?
Watmore has been a revelation, Morsy has come into his own now and made his position his own. He's been honest with what we are lacking and what we need.

Some don't like him calling out player's performances, so what if he's old school? If professional footballers can't take criticism then they should be working harder so they don't give an excuse to the gaffer to call them out.

Mostly seems to be people who didn't like him beforehand anyway deciding that results mean they can get away with the criticism now.

That always happens though. People stay quiet until results justify their initial dislike. The only appointment I've categorically not been behind over the last few years was Woodgate (Monk to a lesser extent) and I didn't have to stay quiet for long. ;-)

It was Monk for me.
Didn't want him, didn't like him and he was never doing well enough to quell my dislike.
I was still shocked when he was sacked though.

With Woodgate, I didn't want him before it was confirmed as I had no confidence in his ability, but I really wanted him to do well when he was.
It panned out as I feared.

I'm happy for him to stay another season, almost regardless (flirting with the bottom three a la Woody may make me change my mind!)

I think expectations need to be reset though - yes we were an "in and around the playoffs" team for a few seasons but that work was undone in 10 months by Woodgate. In one season Warnock appears to have corrected that.

There'll be a number of teams with bigger and better squads than ours come the start of next season, our "edge" is our manager. If he can pull it off brilliant but if he can't I won't be surprised.

Nah, no tide turning

Stating the obvious - his recruitment is vital for us to get off to a good start and keep most fans onside
I dunno if it is though. Even if we have an awful transfer window I'd trust him to get something out of what he has available more than I would most other managers we could realistically bring in. That doesn't mean I think he'd get us up, but I think we'll be as good or better than this season almost no matter what.
