Its that time again......

Banner.jpg

Its back to the beautiful game, with seven games in April - the next twenty-eight days. The last one at home in May being Coventry City.
The noise in the media is reaching a frenzy. The speculation from "experts". The "what-if`s" and the media "pundits" - are all making predictions and talking of what may happen next. The fact is only our lads know when the final whistle goes. The next month will go by in the wink of an eye. We will know our fate soon enough.

Carrick press.png

Michael Carrick made it quite clear in his Thursday Media Conference that he is`nt phased by any of that. He explained his "message" is "Can we improve? Can we get better"? No slowing up because we are in the final straight. "Its no time for lowering the intensity and gradually peeling off. I think for us its the opposite really......The boys have trained incredibly and cranked up the intensity. Pushing and pushing for more. That comes from them as much as anything...we`ve had some good results, some good performances. With that you get the feeling the boys are hungry for more and a little bit greedy ...and enjoying that feeling of winning. It doesnt come easy...or that it will happen again easy on the weekend...".

Carrick knows what he has to do and has confidence and faith that the boys will give as much, if not more, than they`ve done so far this season. He said he could`nt fault the lads for their effort. He believes the message is "Carry on as you are, keep pushing and keep trying to be better". He was pushed to detail what he says to players before a game and how he influences what they do(?). But we`ve come to expect certain answers and hes fond of repeating "I keep saying this". The answer was that he does`nt have to tell players what to do. He provides "guidance" when its needed or when players talk to him and his fellow coaches. His demeanor at the conference was his usual calm and collected self. He proffered no magic formula or speculation. He focused on Huddersfield and praised Neil Warnock for his achievements as a Manager. He also acknowledged the change in playing style and the upturn in performance and results, since the arrival of Warnock at the Terriers. He pointed to their win over Millwall. He is in no doubt Warnock will have done his homework and set his team up to stop the Boro. "We are genuinely expecting a really tough game".

We know the position we are in and we know what we have to face. Its eight "Cup Final`s" to the end of the season proppa. Four at home and four away. Its not for us to worry about those around us, only ourselves and playing to our best. It would be absolutely magic to wake up and find we have nicked second automatic promotion place at the final whistle at home to Coventry! We can but dream. But for now, as Carrick has said before, "we have done nothing yet". Hes right of course. But, three points at Huddersfield tomorrow will set us up for the sprint to the finishing line. We`l dissect the stats when we get to the last game of the season. Its been a tremendous ride [so far], but we start all over again tomorrow.......

Come On Boro!

Tonight we see Burnley take on Sunderland. The odds are firmly stacked against a Mackems side looking destined to finish mid - table.
We will have to wait and see...

Championship Table:

Huddersfield are fighting to get out of that third-bottom spot and are only three points behind Cardiff. Cardiff have the tricky South - Wales derby at home to Swansea. Cardiff also have a game in hand. Wigan look doomed and Blackpool may join them into the third tier - if they dont gat a point at Preston in yet another derby! We heard the "Gentry" singing "if you hate Blackpool, jump around...", but who knows what might happen there? Reading could yet join the scrap depending on the points-deduction decision (?). Its a dog-fight down there. Much rather we be in a dog-fight at the top. Sunlun could go above West Brom if they win - only three points off the play-offs. Dafter things have happened, but its not likely Burnley will afford them the luxury.
It would be pleasant watching a victory for Norwich click-up on Final Score tomorrow. More intriguing, is the derby between Luton at Kenilworth Road versus "Wilder`s Watford". No love lost between those two teams. Luton have been on fire. Its to their credit they are where they are.

Will Neil Warnock have a few tricks up his sleeve tomorrow?

WARNOCK PREVIEWS MIDDLESBROUGH (H)

Huddersfield Town Manager Neil Warnock speaks in his latest press conference

Discussing team news after the international break and the uplift in the atmosphere around the squad.

“Duane has trained on the grass the last few days, but it’ll be too soon for him on Saturday. We might have Duane back for Blackburn Rovers if not before - whereas Waghorn has surprised me and his injury was more cramp so he’ll be involved at the weekend.

"Anthony Knockaert is back with the group, but it might be asking a bit much for Saturday, I'm yet to speak to him.

"Lee Nicholls has been training, he's working hard, and he's been in the gym whenever I have been too so he might get two or three games this season. I've been joking with him about getting to play under me while I'm here this season!

"Nicholls has a real aura about him and there's not much better than him in the league, so it's nice to even have him back around the group.

"Rudoni and Koroma have been excellent in training this past week, so hopefully they get an opportunity at the weekend too.

"I think we bust a few coupons against Millwall and hopefully we can do that again on Saturday.

"You're not going to get any more difficult games in these next three games against Middlesbrough, Watford and Blackburn Rovers, but we'll be making it difficult for those teams too.

"You can sense things, and I felt it that week ahead of Millwall and I still do. When you get a win like that against a good side who don't usually drop points at home, it gives you real belief.”

“Middlesbrough are the most form team in the league so it will be difficult, but we'll give it our best.

"We have to be strong; we have to be disciplined and stay in these games - we can't let ourselves be too open and get picked off where we are in the league.

"But we can improve on that Millwall performance, get better on the ball and keep it for longer, there's plenty more to come from us."

* Town are the second lowest goal scorers in the Championship with 32. Only Cardiff on 28 have scored less. Bottom club Wigan have managed 33.

Don't wish to tempt fate, but those are pretty dire goal scoring stats. Can't see anything but a Boro win tomorrow!

To be fair, they`ve had a wretched season. Neil Warnock is the fifth Manager since Carlos Coberan left in July 2022. They were relegated from the Premiership in the 2018/19 season and almost made it back last season. They finished third and were beaten 1-0 in the play-off Final by Nottingham Forest. It was a cruel blow, as the only goal was an own-goal by Levi Colwill. They have also had issues with ownership. If Warnock does his job - which he describes as the hardest he`s ever had to face - he may save them by the skin of their teeth. We know ourselves about that dont we?!

Famous Town Players:

Trevor Cherry and Andy Boothe

Alan Gowling and John Coddington. John was coach at Middlesbrough. His son, Luke Coddington played for Boro as goalkeeper.
1680287299122.png1680287739159.png

Iwan Roberts - began his football career at Watford. Played for Town 1990 - 93: making 142 appearances and scoring 50 goals. He went on to play for Leicester, Wolves, Norwich and Gillingham. Joey Jones was perhaps better known for playing in Bob Paisley`s Liverpool side between 75-78. Paisley splashed out £110,000 to take him from Wrexham. He was to play three times for Wrexham in his career as well as Town and Chelsea. He was one of John Neal`s first signings for Chelsea after he had left Middlesbrough as Manager.

Dennis Law - one of the greatest players of all time. At 18 he scored his first goal for Scotland. Began his youth career at Huddersfield at the age of 15 in 1955. He had an illustrious career. He left Town in 1960 and played a season at Manchester City, before joining Torino which did`nt really work out. He came back to England, joining Manchester United - for whom he was to make 309 appearances, scoring 171 goals between 1962 and 73. United were on the decline and Law finished his career back at Manchester City for the second time. He famously scored that back-heeled goal against Manchester United at the end of the 73 / 74 season, which saw United relegated to the old second division. At the end of that season, Law retired from the professional game.

Always a weird fixture in our house as my wife is from Huddersfield.

Should be pretty straightforward on paper but it’s Boro. And Warnock. So who knows?!

Gutted cant watch this one flying back to the UK. Flash scores app for goal updates, and then watch the 90 mins when I land back home. Boro 3-0 my prediction.

It certainly wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t win. They are fighting for their lives and add warnock into the mix and that they’ve just had 2 positive results (especially millwall away jeez)
They have a sprinkling of good quality players in Hogg and ward and an ex Sevilla defender.
Depends if we really turn up. If we do, we win, if we don’t and we get 3 or 4 players with a 6/10 performance we’ll get turned over - make no mistake, they won’t lie down for us today.
