* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Ipswich Match - Day Thread *

I do think we will be in the top six at the reckoning, but we never looked like scoring yesterday.

The body language of the players trudging off at half time was worrying. We need some of the injuries to be mended and players back into contention.

And an extra striking option.
What might have been significant was the amount of time players spent back in the dressing room at half time: usually the reserves are out warming up almost immediately, but yesterday were out for only about two minutes before KO. The team dragged its feet to get out and ready in the second half. Carrick isnt a shouter, but his body language after the game and his very reserved comments showed a different approach. The issue of injuries cant be ignored, but it cant be a flannel for every mistake we make and every missed opportunity. Its a team game and players have to show their skills in leadership. Carrick and the staff can only do what they are clearly very skilled at and passing on knowledge, but creativity, passion and grit was missing yesterday.

Boro fans dont mind losing if players have tried their hardest, put a shift in and busted their balls to get a right result. Yesterday, the younger, less experienced players were trying, but they werent getting support from the experienced pro`s, who were playing mardy kids or stroking the ball round the defence. Hoofing the ball to a loan striker, immediately surrounded by defenders, was akin to Pulis ball and Jordan Hugill.

Need to get a grip, stop waiting for the offside flag, sit on the pitch waving our arms as play goes on or moan, whilst we should be regrouping and pushing on.

We created our own problems yesterday - wasting time faffing around with five players in a corner area whilst the rest of the team were standing waiting for the ball up the pitch. Its a simple game, but we made it look difficult. Never mind Ipswich`s undoubted class and ability, our players need to listen and learn from Carrick and grab themselves by the balls.

Put in a "shift" and Teessider`s will back the team to the hilt.

Agree.
Capitulation is the word that came to mind yesterday, and an unprofessional performance.
