* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v West Brom Match-Day Thread *

Mate on another thread the 3 in thread I said this and the fmttm gang rounded on me like it was madness to suggest Smith isn't a great player.
He wasn't anywhere near the required level for the last couple of months of last season. Was getting roasted by anyone with pace and not good enough on the ball in a team like this.

I hope not, we’re following the exact same arc as Wilder.

- Manager comes in,
- Results pick up
- Form falls away at the death
- Fall short
- Big overhaul promised,
- Miss out on targets
- Start the season terribly

Rinse and repeat. The common denominator is the recruitment team.

It’s not Carrick.
It's not the recruitment team that take training everyday. As a bare minimum we should at least look organised defensively.

We are soooooooo poor. I really don't care about us offensively. We don't defend as a team or press well, we make dumb errors and christ we just have no steel or strength or grit to scrap. We have to learn to defend.

It’s that balance isn’t it? We look to press and attack, we’re going to be more open at the back. It wasn’t a problem when we were scoring for fun, we’re just not doing that side of it now.

Think its time carrick took defending seriously rather than being blasé about conceding.

It's gutting how far backwards we look to have gone. This is absolutely rubbish. We're shocking.

Tommy Smith as well, what a fcking idiot. Called it last season that he just isn't good enough, and that today is just rank stupidity.

I wonder if Scott will be as visible as when he was taking the plaudits when we were doing well last season.

I know Carricks calm and doesn't seem fazed in his interviews, but surely he must start doing a bit of Fergies hairdryer treatment. Time for Carricks nice guy personality needs to be put on hold
