The Walk of a Life Time - New Zealand?

They will be in Wellington too I think - speaking to them tonight (UK time)
They head to South Island on NYE - pretty excited about that

All downhill from there  :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

They'll hit some pretty spectacular scenery in the SI, its a lovely place and much more remote than the NI.

Yes, just had a good chat to them.
After all that rain they are in really good spirits and really looking forward to SI
Finny sounds like they are having a great time. Wellington will be nice at Christmas if a bit quiet. Having tackled the Tararuas they have certainly prepared well for the SI.

When they get the ferry over tell them they have to get up too for the journey into the Marlborough sounds.

It’s a lovely way to get here.

Meri kihimete btw.

Ha no, it’s around 7 in the morning here, little cloudy though hopefully going to clear soon.

Kids all grown up now, although the one that does get up stupid early on Christmas Day is now 25 and doing her oe (overseas experience) in London right now so just sat in bed before putting the Turkey in the oven

The ferry journey from Wellington to Picton is one of the great ferry journeys in the world. The Marlborough sounds are as spectacular as the Norwegian Fjords. And waiting for you is Marlboough wine Region.

They loved the ferry ride.
Started their walk on SI yesterday - won’t have any contact for 4 days.
Pretty remote for the next 15 days or so.
They have had to send parcels in advance so every 4/5 days they have food to collect to continue the walk.

The route takes them away from Marlbough 😳

Weather looking good for the next few days for them, but then I think it’s turning to custard at the weekend.

Hope they have a lovely trip down through the Nelson lakes.

A bit of a favour from the locals if poss.
When they finish I wouldn’t mind booking them a 2 night stay in Marlborough.

A couple of things to consider - they are on foot or using public transport. Cycling for day round the vineyards sounds fun.
Nice B+B would be nice v

Any help appreciated.

oh, and happy new year

They finish at Bluff so if you want to treat them book them into The Land's End Boutique Hotel right by the finish. Its got a great restaurant (Oyster Cove) next door. Super friendly owner.

Also whilst they are there they must not miss the opportunity to get the fast ferry over to Stewart Island. It is wonderful place to relax. Great rooms above the only pub on the island.

As for Marlborough the best thing to do is book them back in Picton where there is a good choice of accommodation From their they can book a tour of the best wineries.

If you want them to stay in the vineyards then this is a great place. https://www.thehotelguru.com/hotel/antares-homestay-blenheim

The only downside is that they are in the countryside whereas Picton has plenty of other restaurants and. bars in walking distance.

Oh and Happy New Year from NZ.

I’m ‘on it‘ ref Lands End Hotel.
Thanks for Marlbough info

Happy new year to you all.

Cycling round the vineyards in Marlborough is pretty easy as most of the well known ones are on one road, albeit it’s a blooming long one.

There are a few air bobs in the vicinity of the vineyards, and some of the bike hire places do pick ups and drop offs,

It’s great around the Martinborough wine region on a bike with front baskets for any wine purchases but not too keen on cycling around Marlborough due to longer distances and that road gets pretty busy in the Summer. Especially fueled with wine hence prefer the mini bus trip.
