there has still not been a single dose of a licensed Western vaccine administered on the continent of Africa

I agree to a degree - but if you had the choice of you and your family being vaccinated or another family - hand on heart what would you do?
It's a dilemma for us in the west. And of course you choose your family first. Is your extended family the whole country? The third world doesn't have to answer that question. When we are all vaccinated the west must put resources into speedily doing the same for those places who cannot do it for themselves. It will be in our interest to do that or many more variants may occur
I feel a little two faced talking about this having turned 70 in December so will probably have my jab in the next 15 days

I agree the west needs to act - just continue at pace for the rest of the world.

no need for you to feel guilty about getting the vaccination - you will be helping others as well as yourself by getting the vaccine.

Britain gave the WHO purchasing team for poorer countries nearly $800,000,000 to order vaccines and the USA have given them over $3 billion. I'm assuming other nations will have given them money too. They ordered their first vaccines this week despite having some money for months.

Nearly a month later, there has still not been a single dose of a licensed Western vaccine administered on the continent of Africa — even as roughly 60 million doses have been given worldwide.

It's not true. Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Mauritius, Seychelles and Mozambique have inoculated some people. Not many, but it has started. South Africa has just received 1 million doses, for key workers. Kenya, Zambia and Tanzania are expecting first deliveries of vaccines this week.

I'm not defending the slow start, nor the misuse of money donated to help, but given the relatively low incidence (3 million) of Covid infections, it's not quite the tragedy it could be.

The clock is ticking though, let's hope vaccinations start soon in earnest.
