Things to know about our likely new PM

Just on the flip side here, and admittedly I don't know much about politics in general....

But, if he's worth so much money - does it not mean he has a genuine care about the state of the country if he's willing to get wrapped up in politics and run for a job as PM? He could just reture on a beach somewhere.

It means he has no risk in the game, whatever happens it will be voters who have to bear the brunt of his decisions.

His only reason to be in politics is to benefit himself, family and friends. That's it.

He will personally suffer nothing of what he is about to inflict on the nation and will not care about those that do. He is the definition of trickle down economics that only fills the first wine glass.

Remove the politics from him and he's actually an ok bloke to talk to.
He was guest at a ladies lunch at my old job before COVID kicked off and we spoke for a while about food and drink.

(Don's metal helmet awaiting pelters).

Dodgy politician though. Although I've always had the sense that much like Boris and Carrie, his wife is the one pulling the strings and wearing the trousers.
A lot of them are, it's called being a politician. They're supposed to be good at that ****.

Obviously given many have been selected on ideology over ability in recent years there are probably quite a few on the backbenches who can't string a coherent sentence together, but the majority of ministers are good at the small talk stuff.

In the same way the world’s richest men Bezos, Musk, house of Saud etc etc try to use their wealth to do good for the common masses? Oh no, they try and rinse the poor as much as possible to fill their coffers higher.

The one mega rich bloke who did genuinely try and do some philanthropic good (Gates) with his wealth has been absolutely ripped to shreds and is subject to countless ridiculous conspiracy theories and hatred from alsorts of easily manipulated naive folk, mainly driven by antivax loons and right wing cranks.

Funnily enough I met Johnson years ago and the same would apply. I didn't fall for his spiel but it's easy to see how many would. In person, an affable chap with a solid act of claiming not to know what the hell is going on at any given moment and spouting absolutely irrelevant nonsense.

If he is so bothered about the country and how his party is affecting it, the first thing he will do is call a general election.

*he won't.

He will cling to power with his fingernails as long as he possibly can whilst continuing to rape the country out of every penny he can for him and his class, as they have done for every term they have been in government.

The Tory's are on the brink of political destruction, a lot more of their grubby fraud will come out once they have been kicked into touch. It is now about maximising the £££ they can take in the limited time they have left as an entity.

Aye I've met a few over the years (no-one exciting). Some of my colleagues have been in meetings with Gove and Rees-Mogg *shudders* and apparently they come across as quite reasonable and personable face to face.

Why does a man with so much personnel and family wealth want to be involved with politics?

It's ultimately sinister.
Its the ultimate question, I don't think he has any passion or insight into the UK and its people, I think its pure hubris on his part, an experiment to make the UK economically successful in his mind. He is a self-centred city boy, economics whilst important is only part of the PMs role. I think he will be weak on foreign affairs, if we had a crisis or there was a likelihood of us being dragged into a war, he's so diet coke vanilla i don't think he would have the first clue of what to do. Social care and the NHS are alien concept to him, he doesnt have any idea on its importance in society. all in all I think we have got a man who is fixated with economy, economy, economy , and completely vacuous on all other matters needed to be a good prime Minister for Britain. Its a great appointment for Labour, I think Starmer can go to town on rishi's out of touch personality.

Yeah this was through work so fairly banal. Also attended a cross-party committee relating to a project I was working on. This was at the time when party positions were much less polarised but it was interesting how each MP was effectively a caricature of the party they represented (and I'll include Labour in that). In general I found them quite personable but with a worryingly short grasp on the details they were supposed to be engaged with.

I actually think it's one of the most impactful things we could change in UK politics - actually having MPs with relevant expertise relating to their brief. It's madness in my opinion that we have people purporting to improve highly complex sectors such as Health and Transport with absolutely zero knowledge of how those sectors work. Appreciate that in many respects that's what civil servants and SPADs are for but the buck ultimately stops with the MP and they will be judged on those decisions.

Europe do this MUCH better than we do.

@zzzzz not everybody in his constituency is a dodgy Tory, that's not fair. There are lots of us who haven't and won't vote Tory.
OK just you and me then.
