This Brexit stuff just gets stranger

It's 4 pages in before I've chipped in on this thread but I'll still get blamed for starting it!

I think people need to look at Cuba for a big warning here. Years ago sanctions were put on it from one of the largest trading blocs in the world. One that was but 90 miles of its Western shores. That island country hasn't done so well.

We, inexplicably, have imposed sanctions against ourselves with a massive trading partner just off our shores. How do we think we will fair any different to Cuba? How can it possibly be a good idea to give yourself sanctions against your nearest and biggest trading partner?
Cuba you say. I'm seeing a brexit bonus now. We'll all end up driving around in cool looking old cars 😁

see my previous post, people needed to at least approach it with an attitude of "I need to learn", but the majority are too lazy and instead just react to catchphrases and memes.

The lie bit IS valid. Just because all politicians lie at some point, it doesn't mean some lie more than others, or that all comments by politicians are lies. Brexit was built on lies, the majority of remain comments were grounded in the reality of the inherent risk. Brexit was a major transformation programme for our trading position and future economic strategy. Major transformation is always a risk. At no point did the leave campaign properly address those risks. Instead they lied that it wasn't a risk.
Yeah I totally agree, I just mean I’m not having it that the ‘brexiteers’ are claiming they were lied to.
It’s irrelevant, if they weren’t gullible fools, or didn’t want rid of immigrants at any cost, they could have saw through the lies, they just didn’t want to.

The point is they don’t care about the lies, as they got their xenophobic requirement, now they’re saying they were lied to as an excuse, to try and shelve the economic blame elsewhere. It’s on them, and them only, no excuses.

From the Brexiteers I know (about 20 or so) every single one voted to leave because of immigrants/blacks/ muslims taking our jobs, our benefits, our houses. No other reason. Getting preferential treatment for housing and benefits was a big one. That it was lies didn't matter. It was what they wanted to believe. I even heard a few of them complaining about muslims building a new mosque in Stockton. (In fact it was a small group of people who applied for planning permission to change a disused building into a multi faith project) when a new church hadn't been built in decades. I asked who had applied to build a new church in the last 30 years or so. That doesn't matter, they said.
No- Brexit from where I am sat was all about racism, get the foreigners out, Send them back to where they came from. Nothing else mattered. Everything else was scare mongering and Project Fear.

It's so sad that racism and bigotry has turned our Nation into an embarrassing little backwater. A failed state. It's even sadder that some people, even on here, still desperate defend this process. The try and justify it but know they can't because the decision to leave WAS based on bigotry and hatred. Understandably they are too embarrassed to admit that. Therefore they go to every more desperate lengths to find other ways to justify still supporting Brexit

Sounds like a similar bunch to who I meet on the road most days, absolute idiot cretins, who actually like to believe the fiction.

It’s strange though, isn’t it? As there’s not many Muslim or mainly ‘black’ nations in the EU, I can’t even think of any? They just dislike all foreigners that don’t have English as the main language, and who are not absolutely loaded.

The thing is, we absolutely need immigrant Labour, so if it doesn’t come from white Europeans, it will have to come from further afield, with darker skin colours and less familiar accents. The racists have actually voted to get more of the people they hate the most, which I can see them blowing their lid over, when they finally realise.

Racists really are the worst type of people, and until we actually really do something about it, it will always be there, festering under the surface.

The rulings that affected the shell fish fisherman were in place well before Brexit. UK government actually voted for the policy that would later classify many of our fisheries as second rate and bring a huge cleaning overhead for all of their catch.
Fisherman failed to spot that - fish nuggets is what they are.
