This Crooks transfer

More than selling Rogers in January, taking the option of Crooks out of the squad when we can only sign free transfers looks bonkers now. I can see from a personal and financial perspective for the club why it made sense. But from a football perspective it looks really bad now.

It seems to send message to all and sundry - fans and players that we are just going to struggle through to the end of this season.

Which with 16 left is weird for us. I hope Carrick and the players don't look on it as us pulling the rug from underneath them.

Certainly for the fans, if yesterday is anything to go by, the fans aren't exactly feeling positive

All depends on what money we get for him, and what a substantial fee means.
Think he's got just over a year left on his contract, so probably hard to turn down.

Is receiving a few million quid more important than a player adding something else to the squad, a player that scores goals, assists, has experience, a player that could help us get into the playoffs when we can't replace them adequately?

he wants to leave
Contracts are meaningless as we know these days but you also need strong management to keep your players in tow. From what I’ve seen with the likes of Akpom and now Crooks and Rogers we seem to have weak management. For me this sends the wrong message to other players looking to jump ship.

The thing I can't get my ahead around is that this has been rumoured for a while now but it's come a week after our transfer window has closed.

I get that he wants to take up the opportunity but it's just another player we can't replace. Another option from the bench lost.

It feels strange but if he wants to leave the club doesn’t have a choice. The issue is to go into the window needing a striker and to come out of it not only without one, but also without Rogers and now Crooks. And Jones with a bad injury. And Coburn being unfit for months. And Latte Lath with a hamstring. And McGree carrying an injury that could dog him until the summer. And with none of the younger strikers being deemed ready yet.

I was slightly annoyed by this news the other day but it’s not so much allowing Crooks to leave, it’s that we’ve missed our chance to replace him. It doesn’t seem to make much sense.

Azaz was bought as Crooks' replacement.

I'm more annoyed that we didn't get a striker in a January than I am about them allowing Crooks to leave.

Crooks would make a difference but even still we would have square pegs in round holes. I just don't believe there's not a single srterikrr available for loan if the right striker wasn't available to sign.

Crooks isn't good enough to get us in the playoffs if he stayed anyway so might as well cash in now. If the offer is there then would be daft not to take it now.

But we'd have been better off taking it in January and then reinvesting the money in areas of the pitch we are short on.
