In goal for Blackburn that day was Stockton lad Darren Collier, who is Kernaghan's mate from their early days at Boro.

I remember the score being announced on the late north east news. When they said " with a hat trick from Kernaghan and 1 from Slaven" I was convinced that they had got it the wrong way round! UTB.

I was there with my mates that night. We'd bunked off Poly on the afternoon of our day release.
We had tickets from the original fixture that had been postponed due to water logging. It should have been a Saturday fixture and we'd driven across, went to a nice country pub with no inkling that the game was in danger. It was only when we had got into town and turned on the local radio did we find out the game had been postponed. Gutted!

Those were the days pre-internet and mobile phones. I don't know what we would do without them now.

Anyway, the performance that night made up for it 👍

I also bunked off poly, HNC Building Studies, spur of the moment. mate had his scarf flapping from the window going down the motorway, opened his window, scarf was gone. ten minutes later a lorry passed us with the scarf pressed flat around its tyre.

Think frank stapleton scored for them as they pulled it back to 3-2

Yep, me and the good lady drove over the pennines in my Morris marina 1300 de luxe, 600 pounds from brotton hall garage.
We only had a uk map with ewood on it, reckoned that was where the ground was, had to ask the way twice.

Best pies from a footy ground I've ever tasted.

We sat in the main Blackburn stand that night. When we got up to leave at the end, the group of old gents sat behind us clapped and said well played, lads, safe journey home. Unique experience, like from a different age.

Was supposed to go to that game with my mates. I was due to go back offshore in a couple of days time. Carole my wife insisted I stay home and finish the decorating of the dining room I had started before going back to work. TBH I had history of leaving jobs half finished and going away to work. Listened to it on the radio. When the hattrick went in I hoofed the radio across the floor. Cracked it a bit it but still worked.

I was working over in Sellafield and had come home for my sister's birthday. I decided to take the long route back and went to this game. I honestly thought we would get beat and couldn't believe it when we stormed into the lead.

The ground looked a lot different then to what it does now.
