This is not a "second wave" of infections

Because it’s only been in circulation across the world once

What would your basis be for it to be a second wave
Who knows?
It's a virus that hasn't been seen before. I know it is quite hard to find in the general population at the moment in the UK.
I also know viruses mutate, sometimes for the worse and sometimes for the 'better'.

I think the only reason a second wave will be worse is because people will ignore the restrictions more a second time.

couple of reasons, they’re fed up with the first lockdown and they feel more immune to it because they didn’t get it the first time and it was never as bad as the government original scare stories predicted (probably because the govt did eventually act)

There are reports the virus is weakening. Apparently the Spanish flu virus still exists in the population, it’s just weakened to the point of not mattering.

(speaking as a consultant virologist )

Does it? Hell, you learn something new everyday.

I did see the other day that a part of Congo had been declared an ebola free zone but other parts of the country still had it in circulation? That virus is more deadly than this infamous one we have floating about at the minute isn't it?

I was reading Michah Richards wikipedia last night for some reason, and came across a section which said he contacted swine flu in 2009 while on holiday in Cyprus and was kept in isolation on his return. Didn't know about this at all, probably because of the lack of social media, especially in news, in 2009.

Remember when Arteta got covid and they called off the Arsenal/Man City game? Wonder why that never happened back in 2009. EDIT: It was July, but still... there was no massive reaction.

What are you basing that on?

Different disease and a different time I know but the second wave of Spanish flu was significantly worse.
We have better access to data and better understanding of transmissions, these days. If this had happened 100 years ago it would almost certainly have killed many many more people. There will be second spikes, but action will be taken, and sensible people will then take precautions to protect their family. The second wave might be bigger but it won't be anything like the second wave of spanish flu

Maybe not. But where were the sensible people telling us what precautions to take in the first wave?
