Time to lose the number 10?

I think one of our main problems is we’re wide open in midfield. I’d drop the number ten and go with a 3 in midfield.

Hackney had an off day but he’ll be ok as an 8. We’ve also got McGree, O’Brien and Crooks (excellent under Wilder) in that role.

I still think we’d created enough but be less open without the ball.
 
I think this is right. Playing with Akpom as a 10 worked last year as he was exceptional - Akpom was like we had an extra player in midfield and up front. None of the players we have now are able to do it as well so it ends up with us just looking light in both midfield and up front.
 
Need to tighten up somehow. Defend better as a team. MF gets over run too easily.

O'Brien will make a huge difference, looking forward to seeing him start games.

Even if the No 10 is our Plan B option, don't need to abandon it completely.

Basically, cut through all the sh*t the 4-2-3-1 isn't working at either end.
 
Certainly wouldn't be against it but the formation for me isn't the main issue. The tempo and speed of our play is way off compared to last year. Which is probably a confidence issue.
 
Definitely agree with this….makes a load of sense especially as we don’t have someone who can play in the Akpom role.

Problem with the formation - and how we play week in week out - is teams have us sussed. Coventry did it in the playoffs.

And we do not have a No. 10.....or one that is consistant or in form. And when the fluency isn't there (which it clearly isn't) we look all over the place.

Just not working imo.

May work in a few weeks when some of the players have settled; but now, need to be more solid. Stop the rot.
 
I think it's the simplest fix. Just stick O'brien alongside Howson and Hackney.

We may lose a bit going forward (although clearly not much). Yet should strengthen the middle of the park and give the back 4 a bit more cover.

I almost say 'go back to basics'. We need to start keeping clean sheets. Yet not sure we have the players or coach to do that.
 
Carrick is trying to get Bodgers to play as Chuba did. He's not good enough so we're carrying that position at the moment.

Ditch it and go 433.
 
I don’t think we have much choice. Rogers can’t hold the ball up and doesn’t offer enough going forward. As others have highlighted we need to be much more solid or teams will just keep finding it easy to run through us.

We haven’t got the players to outscore them this season.
 
The mf now is non existant with nothing at all in the middle Rogers is too high up and how’s one Hackney sit too deep ( almost in the cab role) so there just a void in the middle of the park as we try endless through balls that kept getting blocked or cut out.

Another problem is we were trying to walk it in,we were trying one twos in the box,they just packed the box and we couldn't get through. Plus no one shoots and no one follows in, a fox in the box would of had at least two following in as their goalie parried.
