Times our fans have acted daft

I'm a little ashamed of my treatment of Peter Beagrie. I kept shouting judas at him until the last time he came to the ground before he was sacked by sky sports.

I was completely unaware that he and the other more senior better paid pros paid into a pention scheme that was stolen by the club. He owed us nothing.

Me too. We idolise the ones who stayed but what if they'd had offers elsewhere? Would they really have said no thanks I'm staying here where I don't know if the club will survive to pay my wages or not. Looking back I wouldn't blame any for leaving and like you say, the treatment Beagrie in particular got was awful.

still get goose bumps to this day thinking of that and I was only 9! Didn't really understand it at the time but can still feel the atmosphere when I think back to it.
That's the only positive I took from that day, the 3 pts chant. The build up of our biggest day in our history was just a dark cloud with no redeeming feature. But never mind it's only a game of football.

Several of them did and decided to stay, Charlton offered Hamilton and Mowbray deals
Laws had several offers, Stephens could have gone to Swindon, and Darlington made offers for Cooper, Pallister, Gill, Parkinson and Turnbull, Hammy and Mogga would have had 3 year deals if they'd gone

Too many fans like to play the martyr on how they would have stayed and fought for the club (and thank god a lot did) but I doubt a lot of them actually would have! If you compare it to industry on Teesside, if your plant is going to shut down and you get an offer elsewhere 99% would go. We all have bills to pay and families to provide for. Footballers wernt exactly on megabucks those days and nobody knew the club would survive and return to the top flight. As somebody who was born a couple of years after 86 I was always told Beagrie was a traitor who abandoned us when we needed him the most but as I got older I completely understand his decision. You've got to look after number 1/2/3 in this world and nobody works for free!

Choose any big away following at a northern ground with 4k plus in attendance and you will witness some awful behaviour from some of our 'fans'. Zero interest in the game, just wanting to get as drunk/drugged and antisocial as possible (to their own included). It can be grim being anywhere near them.
Give me a far flung fixture with a hardcore 1k away fans in attendance any day.
Preston away, last game of the season the other year.

Took my 8 year old boy and we had seats in the middle of the stand. Watched the players warm up and there was about 5 seats between us and the next person. As the teams come out and people pile out of the concourse to the seats, we had a group of about 7/8 lads aged 15-22 come and squeeze into the gap. Then a fat ringleader and another mate tried squeezing in and as my 8 year old was standing on his seat so he could see over the people in front we had nowhere to go but we were trying to be pushed along. Fat lad kept saying “move up“ to his friends who insisted there was nowhere to go but he kept trying to shove along.

I shouted out to watch out as there is a young lad here but they didn’t care. Got told to f-off so they could squeeze in. Told them there isn’t enough space and got more abuse. Little lad started getting upset but wanted to stand my ground. Then they openly started sniffing and sharing coke around between them which was the point I snapped and took the little un away from them, making a loud point about the scum we have following us as we went. Ended up having to stand right at the front in the aisle as stewards could not find us any spare seats.

Ended up getting beat 4-1 and one of the worst experiences I’ve had, not just in football but in life.

As the poster said in the quote above, some away games are horrendous to attend nowadays as we have some people attending with no concept of correct behaviour.
