Top decision after top decision

Dropped like a stone? A stone doesn’t keep going up and down year on year.. lots of folks deciding our EUFA year is where we belonged and that’s where they’re dropping the stone from!

You can’t criticise the club for backing the managers too greatly and neither can you expect the club to hold onto a failing manager regardless!
Even from a few years ago in the premier league to where we are now. The club is in a shocking state and so is the playing squad considering the money it’s had over the years.

Huge money with huge contracts on players who would never have any sell on value is just stupid for a club like ours, not difficult to see that wouldn’t be sustainable for long

It won't, which is why we need more continuity and not allow managers to control our transfer dealings.

We need a balanced squad, one which has options and isn't restricted to playing the way the current manager wants.

Football demands instant success these days and managers are getting less and less time.
I think the players brought in should be of use to the manager at the time or we end up in the position the club was in under wilder. But regardless yes we need a long term manager and actually stick with them if we have a few rough months
We are in such a bad position with this squad, it has no real core of players who can stay for years plus has so many loans in key positions

We’ve made our money back on most years.
Strachan years caused a dent as did the Monk/Pulis years.

Its always worth reminding ourselves of the facts.
The period from 2009 till now [bar one season] compared to the period from 1995 to 2009 represents a considerably different Middlesbrough.

Our fall from the Premiership, other than the one season under Aitor Karanka [until he was sacked with a quarter of the season still to go] - certainly highlights the decreasing quality of the playing stock and - with the increasing speed of Management sackings and hiring - appears to represent "panic" to claw promotion from the jaws of mediocrity. Obviously we are not going to either attract or afford top quality Premiership players - which is a hurdle every championship club faces - due to the unlevel playing field £££££££££. The three relegated clubs have the parachute payments to sustain top quality squads, but also have that legacy for a further two seasons if they dont go back up immediately. Like Newy said - its a complicated situation and its hard to accept the present environment often just rewards clubs with the most money.

Most Premiership players are mercenaries and dont stay around long if a club is relegated. The days when Premiership - standard players stay to help Championship clubs get promotion are few and far between. Remember the 1997 / 98 season when we went straight back up to the Premiership - with Paul Merson ["The Magic Man"] finishing top scorer on 16 goals.

We have to be bob-on with the Manager, recruitment, financial prudence and the right culture, to follow the likes of Brighton, Brentford and Crystal Palace [for example].

Until the next Manager proves his credentials - there doesnt appear to be a great deal of positivity around - that we are going to do any more than bobble along in the Championship. We are all clutching at straws, in the hope that the next gaffa is the Messiah. Personally, I couldnt care who it is, so long as we start winning - regularly and climb up the bluddy league. We`ve tried all the different permutations. So lets just hope we do find the Messiah,.......this time (?!)

So.. the decline started around 1924?

Is it to late to shout Herbert Bamlett out?

Grow up and add to an intelligent debate.
If you cant find anything constructive to say - then dont say anything.
You are the one churning out reams and reams of utter nonsense! No need to get your knickers in a twist just because I don’t subscribe to the idea that Middlesbrough’s history started in 2004 and we’ve taken an unnatural, uncontrolled dive into obscurity ever since. Was it you that came up with the ‘managed decline’? It’s embarrassing! I’d expect this sort of claptrap from Bernie Slaven aching for social medial likes.. it works for boosting ratings, boosting listeners, subscribers etc. Not so much if you’re just stamping your feet on a message board because the opinion you’ve swallowed whole is disagreed with.

Its a matter of statistics contributing to a debate about Middlesbrough Football Club - whom we all care for - on a football forum.

The kind of debate where you tell folks not to say anything?
Its a reasoned debate until taken completely out of context. Its not about you or me - its about the Boro.
I`m concerned that this period without a Manager is having a damaging effect.
Lets stick to the football.
Thank you.

It’s not about you? It feels very much like it’s about you and what you have to say. This period without a manager, similar to others will not effect the games that have gone previously.. the ones that have already caused the damage.

To be honest, a 500 word lecture, with graphs, has taken the momentum out of the debate more than a tongue in cheek comment - which actually raised a valid point - ever could.
