Top Supported North East Teams

Never seen the data presented like that before. The interesting stats for me was that York was better supported than Hartlepool. Who knew? And South Shields and Scarborough pulling more than Darlo!

York probably should be better supported, it's a significantly bigger place than Hartlepool.

Obviously both areas will be competing with bigger clubs for support too.

Yes, York has over 200k and growing.
Some pull from Leeds in York, but possibly more Sunderland fans in Hartlepool.
Always been impressed by Hartlepool's support for a town of circa 94k.

Surprised Sunderland's dropped considering they were promoted the season before and had a decent enough season.

I'd guess it's just because they had a cup match against Crewe Alexandra and that's knocked down the average significantly.

Leeds is why sadly you’re right but it has an unhealthy Leeds following

York only used to get 4,500 when they were in Div 2 (Championship) in the mid 1970s and they were getting that recently in National League North. Unbelievable to think how low down the leagues York were in a city of 200,000.

People still mock our support but to get 26,500 in an area of approx 450,000 is some going.

That's true, and we were flying in the top flight with lower attendances than today.

Yes, York and Scarborough is littered with such deluded folk sadly.

Years ago, I once appealed my council tax banding on a few grounds, claiming my property was worth less than the council had banded it at, one of my stated reasons was that next door was owned by a Leeds fan. I enclosed a photo of their car on their drive with its rear window sporting a huge transfer of the club badge on display as evidence. The council were very stiff upper lip with their response 😂

A pity it didn't work.

As a Boro fan living in Leeds I'd have been only too happy to stick plenty of Boro paraphernalia up outside, more than the subtle "Middlesbrough FC supporters parking only" sign I have at the far end of my drive.

Taking nice backhanders from my neighbours for the good deed of lowering their council tax of course in the process.😉

Given the apparent preponderance of Leeds fans in towns and cities across west and north Yorkshire, and their associated populations ,they should be best supported team in the country, and yet they have been nowhere near!
