Train Strikes - Question

Have a trip booked weekend of 2nd Feb and the trains are running on the journey out on the Friday, but strikes are planned for the Saturday. The hotel is non-refundable, which is a pain, but I am awaiting a response about possibly moving the date.

As I have a return ticket and the train is planned to be running the Friday, I'm wondering if I go ahead and travel if the train company likely to provide replacement buses for the return leg? I don't really care how I get back, so long as there's an option to do so, really.

Any thoughts from the board's train experts? @Capybara

If you're on LNER on the Monday, that strike was called off earlier today.

I've not seen anything about the Saturday.

I can't be much help, I'm afraid. I personally don't book that far in advance and just avoid travelling on strike days so I don't have any experience. I'm assuming that, firstly, the company you are travelling with is being hit by the strike on that day. If it isn't then you should be fine. If it is then it's probably as well to check the position with the company. Companies usually try to run some sort of a service when there's a strike but can't guarantee in advance what will run. At the same time they usually advise people not to travel on a strike day. I think they normally give people who have booked the opportunity to travel on the following day but that's probably not much help to you. I'm pretty sure they don't run 'buses as they don't know in advance what the position is, unlike when there's engineering work. So, I'm not a lot of help, I'm afraid. I suggest you ask the company.

There won't be any replacement buses on strike days. now the Government have brought in a "Minimum Service level" there could be more trains running, but nobody knows until the companies decide themselves.

Thanks all. Got a response from the train company and they've confirmed that there's no rail replacement buses and that as it's an ASLEF strike there will be Zero service on the Saturday.

Just got to hope the hotel will allow us to change the dates
