Ive just gone for fish n chips at whitley bay (11 ba$tard pound) and had a flashback to the restaurant above Acklam Shops when I was young

I'm sure it went by the same name and even had the same logo as the ones in Whitby and at the Spanish City?

Were the fish and chips any good?

It's run by the same company that have the Whitby outlet. Always good quality.

Categorically- they did not run the Acklam Shops establishment.

They also owned the Crab & Lobster at Asenby for quite a few years.

Im sure the logo was the same, must have been the days when copyright wasnt a big thing. I remember it for carverys

Weren't too bad £11 is the going rate at Whitley Bay which is top end. I went to colmans a couple of weeks ago and they had a deal on paid less than £7 for a similar size

Priory Fisheries in Guisborough I think were about £7 for Cod and Chips. (standard size)

Was the £11 for a sit down in a restaurant?

No one would pay £11 for takeaway fish and chips, would they?

£26 for two haddock, one portion of chips and two drinks at the fish shop at the beach in Blyth!

Very good though.

Its the going rate in Whitley Bay for takeaway. There's no price war which i guess makes good business sense so you either pay the going rate or go without or visit elsewhere

7 quid is very good for these days. Around £8.50 in redcar and at least a tenner in Whitby. 11 quid doesn't seem that bad.

I will have to double check the Priory on that £7- I can imagine Whitby would more expensive and some of its places are nothing special but visitors think they are. I am surprised Blyth is around £13 for fish and chips. When I worked there it was not the sort of place to get lots of visitors or have expensive overheads.

Priory is reasonable quality, not as good as Sea Breeze @ Redcar that also do Gluten free. (pre booked).

Sea Breeze is £8.30 and its been rated in the top 10 in the UK in the past.

Teesside seems to one of the best value for Fish and Chips in the UK.

Wales was £7.50 to £12 in June 2022. according to BBC.

Trenchers, above Coniston shops was ran by Ian Peacock and Dave McNamara, who were also the entertainment. Had some great nights in there in the early 80's 👍🥳

love trenchers in Whitby , go to fish shop when back in UK ..... Also special mention for Downeys at Seaham Harbour who are about 30% cheaper , have a nice sit in place and are just as good quality

Downeys at the Stack at Seaburn was also similar price.

Almighty cod at seaton is my favourite the name of the place gives a clue as to the size of a standard fish from there

Lovely cod and chips for 2 with 3 pints of Estrella on Friday at Green Dragon, Bedale.
£40 and worth it.

£11.80 at my nearest chippy in Abingdon, the fish is crap, the chips are crap & the batter is crap & they don't do scraps. Ohhh how I miss being up there. Their curry sauce is ok tho 😁

We're not short of good fish and chips around the Teesside area, including Hartlepool. There's no need to head to Whitley Bay or Whitby for a good meal.

Reading how difficult it is to find staff in Whitby and how high property prices are, I can understand why its at least £10 for fish and chips there.

If you had it takeaway, you'd have been much better walking literally straight across the road to the Whitley Whaler chippy.

Same price thats why my partner usually goes but thought i'd try trenchers.

I was always a Pantrinis man but was disappointed with their offering last time

There's at least 3 places that sell ice cream but Di Meos is always the one with a queue
