Trump is on e again making comments about not defending all Nato allies if they are not paying their way and would encourage Russia to attack any members who have not met their financial obligations.

Ukraine must be watching this closely.

The Guardian - On Saturday, Trump claimed that during an unspecified Nato meeting he told a fellow head of state that the US under his leadership would not defend any countries who were “delinquent”.

“One of the presidents of a big country stood up and said, ‘Well, sir, if we don’t pay, and we’re attacked by Russia, will you protect us?’” Trump said, adding “I said, ‘You didn’t pay, you’re delinquent?’”

“No, I would not protect you. In fact, I would encourage them to do whatever the hell they want. You got to pay. You got to pay your bills.”

Yes Nato as we know it simply won’t exist if he gets in it’s that simple he’s made no secret of it. Putins puppet will see to that
 
The American MAGA loons can't see past their countries borders, and I'd bet 99% of them would be happy to become a mini North Korea and practically shut the USA off from the rest of the world. Ignorance is bliss etc.......

Trumps "Foreign Policy" will be a disaster for global stability, with countries such as Russia happy to kick things off with their neighbours knowing the World Police are back at the station eating donuts......or 300k of them stopping the immigrants at the Mexican border.......

I was arguing about this on the Ukraine thread, on Friday. NATO is all about the money paid to the US to ensure that each country keeps buying the weaponry.
The added complication of the orange turd is that he has always been clearly in the pocket of Putin - whether the pee-pee tapes exist or not.
'Unhinged' is the description being used which is quite kind. I hate the man. He personifies everything that is wrong about our capitalist system.

Listening to Trump’s comments suggests that history could be repeated. For the USA to enter the 2 World Wars, the sinking of the Lusitania and Pearl Harbour had to happen.
Perhaps the politicians allowing UK’s armed forces to be reduced in numbers is not too bright. Relying on our nuclear deterrent is a dangerous game.

A lot of myths are written about the attitudes of the US before WW2 as the reality was there was a lot of Americans ( German Italian immigrants that sympathised with the Axis nations and it was even unclear in congress if they were to join in which side.

Trump taps into these base prejudices of racism and xenophobia as don’t forget the us had “apartheid” in all but name right up until the late 60s early 70s. So it’s not that long ago.

There was a question on QI the other night about the pentagon and how many people worked there and the staggering number of toilets it had and the reasons why it had so many….

It was because it had so many as it had both white only and black only toilets as shocking as that sounds that was the reality at the heart of the US govt.

100% this conversation never happened, except in Trump's addled mind. The USA is finished.
 
Wonder what would happen if the rest of NATO countries told the US to do one and started working on building peaceful relationships with countries that the US prefers us to be at odds with.

More likely that the useless fat kncker will see the inside of a jail cell.

No matter what he says (which is usually lies, of course), it would be extremely unlikely they leave NATO, he would have little chance of getting such a big decision like that through their various levels of approval, it would also take a long time if they did want to do it.

If they left NATO they would probably have to significantly increase their defence spending, to get similar levels of protection, it's not likely.

USA would be much weaker V China etc, without NATO, so as much as Trump doesn't seem that fussed about Russia, he would be about China and them losing their position as the No 1 military threat (especially with NATO backup). USA is probably still no 1, but won't be for long, as China currently spends double what the USA does on defence. China will possibly also take over NATO eventually, if they keep us what they're doing, but they might go broke before then also.

We would be ok without the US in NATO, it's not like the USA is going to attack us, and there would still be common enemies or common defence, just not under the NATO banner.

I get what he's saying about member countries not paying 2% for their GDP though, when this is pretty much a requirement. Sure, the world is a bit messed up at the minute, so knocking that 2% requirement down for a few years might make sense. Encouraging others to attack NATO countries which don't pay their 2% is ludicrous.

The USA needs NATO membership to position their assets all over the world, they're far too paranoid to have that taken away.
 
He’d be very wrong to encourage any country to attack another one that “wasn’t paying their bills” but he’s absolutely right that several nations have not been paying their fair share for the security they currently enjoy from NATO.
 
Currently with Biden, Sunak et al we have war in Ukraine; genocide in Palestine; Houthis making the Suez Canal almost a no go zone; attacks on Iranian targets; fascist tropes in the UK and a resurgent far right in other parts of Europe.

Trump is the least of our worries

So true. Most of Trump’s output is performative, especially at this stage of the electoral process. As it goes on he will gradually move into his chaos state. Because that is where he is most comfortable.
