This is English arrogance at its finest.Glover would be mad to go, even if he is called up. He is only going to be no2/no3 keeper at best in a competition that isn't exactly the world cup! He will be putting the cones out
Has a chance to play in the championship for a good number of games, and prove he can play at this level, either as a solid number 2, or prove to someone to make a move for him in the summer.
Agreed. Not sure how far our interest went at the time but that ship has surely sailed nowI'd have thought he would have Premiership suitors if he ever leaves Liverpool. Been more than competent whenever he has played for Liverpool
No at all. I'm not saying the same thing about Dieng competing in the Africa Cup of Nations, which is a prestigious competition for those competing in it. Australia are only in that confederation by default anyhow. This is English arrogance at its finest.
It's their equivalent of the European championship, where national teams take 3 keepers. He'd be mad not to go if selected.
But they're in that confederation and it's the second biggest competition that they compete in. As I say, their equivalence of the European Championship. Would you expect an English keeper to turn that down?No at all. What is more likely to get him a move in the summer to being a regular number one at a championship or equivalent club? Being the Third keeper for the Asian cup 2024 winners (although south korea and Japan will probably beat them), or, half a dozen championship games, with the possibility of more, proving you can play at this level. But they're in that confederation and it's the second biggest competition that they compete in. We have three keepers on loan. Brynn, Hemming and Roberts. He is probably the older and was playing regularly for Barnsley until he got injured. Think he still might be injured though as he hasn't been in squad since end of October. Manager was saying he was outstanding earlier in the season before the injury.I imagine if we don't convince glover to sack off the Aussies, we will bring Hemming back from St Mirren. He is the older of the two keepers out on loan and the one more likely to move on in the summer, would be a good opportunity for him to showcase his talent at championship level.
Roberts can't play out from the back like Carrick would want.We have three keepers on loan. Brynn, Hemming and Roberts. I'm not specifically saying Hemming/Bryn can, but given they've been brought through the academy and are both very highly thought of, I'd very much expect them to be able too.
Also Roberts will leave in the summer as out of contract. The other two loan keepers are under contract and are our assets that we can increase (hopefully) in value by playing
True, lots to consider. However, if Oz get knocked out before the semi's they should be banned from football and Senegal should go very deep into the African nations as they are probably the overall favourites. They'd also both benefit more from playing a full season on loan.
Dieng is only going to be gone for a maximum of 6 league games, assuming we're beaten by Villa and both Senegal and Australia reach their finals.
It could be as few as 2 matches if we beat Villa and Senegal/Australia are knocked out in the round of 16 or earlier.
I'm not sure it's worth disrupting their loans for such a short spell, as they'd just be warming the bench when Dieng is back.
It was Carrick who said we might bring a loan player back so he must have an idea who it will be.Roberts can't play out from the back like Carrick would want.
