Union Flag

A great picture there Roofie. I visited the Riechstag a couple of years ago whilst on a work trip. Look how far we have come when we all work together. If only we could all respect one another without getting worked up because someone is different.
Glass roof built by the British. I hope there's a flag on it

A question I always ask myself in these debate is, what would I have done had I found myself living in an aggressive fascist state like Nazi Germany?

Would I have fought against my own country for what I believe is right? Tens, if not hundreds of thousands of Germans did this; I like to think I would have done the same in their situation, but I no doubt some would call me a traitor if I did. Maybe I would be a traitor to the flag and the government. I don't think I'd have too much problem with being called that.

Against that, I think it's easy for me to say that I would have been strong enough to stand up to the regime from the peace and safety of my laptop. It's easy to resist the intoxicating fervour of flag waving, parades , rallies and righteousness, always backed up by fear, when you are not actually in the midst of it. I'd like to think I'd be strong enough to stand up to it, but I don't know that I would be.

Who knows what emergency powers they might have voted through by the time the next general election should be due.

I'm pretty certain that Johnson has the arrogance, sense of entitlement and complete lack of self awareness and critical thinking to believe he could serve as a benign dictator to steer dear blighty through the turbulent waters of the next 10 years.

The thing I find uncomfortable about patriotism in general, but specifically the style of Brexit patriotism, is that its divisive and that our countries strength seems to have to be at the expense of Europe.

I'd much prefer a government and a nation that builds relationships with other nation's, for the good of everyone.
