VAR would've given a different result today

Most of the issues we still see with VAR is bad refereeing. We are literally giving them all the information, several looks at it and different speeds and angles and they are still getting things wrong. That tells you that the standard of refereeing is nowhere near good enough and needs improving. Why would you think they are going to be better making those decisions in real time? They are just guessing.
100% agree. Spot on. Most weeks in the championship you have to face an opposition team of 11, and four guys rolling dice. Sunderland will probably feel vindicated that decisions went their way this week, after they felt done over by poor refereeing during their game against Swansea the previous week.

Our fans shrugged when the Blackburn player was sent off for throwing the ball at McGree's head, because we all saw how referee missed what happened to Dael Fry a few seasons previous. The common denominator is consistently poor refereeing from those employed to do the job at this level for many years.

No, that was the correct decision. You might agree (like most did on here) that it is harsh. But it was the correct decision and it wasn't as if McGree rolled around on the floor to try to get him sent off. He was stupid and got what he deserved for his stupidity and I don't think many Blackburn fans complained other than about the stupidity of the young lad doing what he did.

I agree with this.

Managed to get home and watch the last half hour of the Arsenal v Utd game and when Arsenal scored the winner in 90th minute, some fans held back from celebrating knowing it was a tight offside call and waited until VAR confirmed before celebrating.

Yes the decision was correct in the end, but my goodness, that whole situation and waiting has just completely ruined the experience and thrill for some.

90th minute winners are what we all love in the sport. It's literally one of the best feelings you'll get when attending games, and yet it's ruined because of VAR.
That is not true. The Arsenal fans celebrated wildly when it went in. The bonus was that they got to celebrate again when VAR confirmed the goal. Two celebrations for the price of one.

VAR kills the game for anyone in the crowd. Give me the excitement that goals bring and accept that human error is part of the game any day over a 5 minute wait to see if a goal was 1mm offside
I'm in complete agreement with you there!

Over the course of the season these decisions even out, so please keep VAR out of the 'lower leagues' thank you very much.

Imagine our Carling Cup win with VAR. First goal we'd have celebrated wildly, perhaps holding back 5% just to check it wasn't offside. Second goal, penalty may not have been given, wouldn't have celebrated when it WAS given as it could have been overturned quite easily, then Zenden steps up and scores, we celebrate but feel like 'something looked odd' then wait around for a few minutes for them to decipher that he kicked it twice and its in fact a free kick to Bolton. 1-0 and backs to the wall for potentially 80 odd minutes, Zenden feels like a pudding.

I'm sure Bolton fans would have preferred VAR but this is my point, we won't benefit from it any more (on the whole) than we'll miss out from it, so I don't really want it at all.

Also, pundits don't sit and pull apart every single decision in the second tier so it isn't AS needed even from that perspective.

I admit we were second best today, but even so games like this are won on margin calls and the truth is Sunderland got them both. Watching on telly there was no way that Dael Fry's tug was a Penalty. The pulling (what little there was) started at least 10 yards short of the penalty box and was a free kick at best.

Chuba Akpom was taken out from behind in the box in the 92nd minute in what was a stone wall penner but the ref waved play on.

Both of these incidents if they'd have happened in the Prem would have been given.

Its not sour grapes , its just that you can't un-invent TV slo-mo's and everyone at home can see we've effectively been 'robbed' of justice.

For me VAR can't come quick enough to the championship as well.
I'd say it is sour grapes.

Imagine Festa’s goal making it 1-1 in the FA Cup Final.. I’d have liked it that day.

VAR would have probably helped us with this incident, but overall I do think it spoils what the essence of being a football is i.e. the instant rush when your team scores.
