vdB as captain

VDB has shown leadership qualities since he got here. If your good enough your old enough
Yep, he talks and organises more than Fry, Howson or McNair ever have, he also takes it to heart and looks gutted / furious when we concede shīté goals and ultimately lose.

There's a lack of fight and ruthlessness, a willingness to put everything on the line to defend and keep clean sheet in our squad.

Players like Fry, McNair, Howson, Dijksteel etc. just don't seem to have the never say die, don't quit, blood sweat and tears attitude to defending and winning that the likes of Friend, Gibson, Leadbitter, Clayton, Ayala etc. had.

Totally agree with this. One of my criticisms over the last 2-3 years.
Just because Howson is the oldest doesn’t mean he’s a captain.

He shows 10 times the leadership qualities of anyone else in the team, I will also include Jonny "field mouse" Howson who is the most uninspirational club captains we've ever had, just watch him walk back to the centre circle with his head down whenever we concede as proof.

The quote regularly heard about him that he "leads by example" really means he is no way a leader but we have no one else - there is a significant lack of leaders in our squad. RVDB, even at 19, is one of the few who is.

Ayling was probably meant to bring a bit of that, but unfortunately whilst he's vocal, he’s also not very good.

Our captaincy order is probably something like -

Howson
Lenihan
Smith
Hackney
Fry
McNair
VDB

Just underlines the ridiculous injury list again

Well VDB has just captained us through the biggest sack of schit spineless performance of the season so he’s back to the bottom of the list 😅

How many captains have we had this season now? Howson, Fry, Lenihan (?), McNair, Hackney, VDB. Any more?
