VDB

Need promotion to keep hold of him. Will not see him do a second season in the championship imo. I don’t see what he’d get out of it. It’s clear now this level is below him. Best CB in the division.
 
Looks like he’d got a thigh injury at the end of the game. Was walking gingerly towards the fans after the game, and seemed to have a chat with Carrick about it.

I hope he is fit through to the end of the season. He has been fantastic.
 
It’s easy to see why bigger clubs were interested. He seems like a mature lad so hopefully isn’t in a rush to leave, but a big money move would be difficult to turn down.
 
I think his best position seems to be centre back rather than right back, and it’s a packed position for next season. Lenihan, fry, Clarke, paddy and VDB.
Obviously it will be lenihan (for his ability and leadership) and one other; Fry or VBD surely ?
Some huge decisions for carrick because fry won’t be happy with the bench…🤔

Fry should be on the bench. We have much better centre backs than him.

That’s your opinion.
My opinion is there is little to choose between lenihan, VDB and Fry. Lenihans vocal leadership comes through which puts him slightly ahead, Fry has huge experience in the championship, is passionately committed to Boro and talented. VDB has pace, great reading of the play and is also passionate, but without the experience of others however, fractionally ahead of fry when listing qualities versus cons..
 
I just prefer literally everyone but him. He’s not a leader type and just has lapses in him all the time. I would prefer to sell Fry and offer McNair a new deal but easier said than done.

Lenihan and VDB will be first choice next season and Clarke first choice back up in my opinion.

I bet if we polled every boro fan on merits of the 5 of them fry would be in the top 3. Clarke would be last of the five.
It’s all about opinions but to think fry always has a mistake in him is extraordinary, he’s in the top. Five CBs in the division and will play in the premiership in his career.

Amazing what people see in players. Clarke and Engel have mistakes in them 🙈 big ones that have video evidence 👌🤷‍♂️ but not fry.

Fry has definitely reached the point of being taken for granted. He's been here so long now and hasn't kicked on to the top level like some thought he would and so now he is deemed to be not good enough. But just because he hasn't been picked up by a PL team doesn't mean he isn't one of the best in the Championship still. I really rate him. If Paddy moves on and Carrick sticks with 5 at the back my pick would be Lenhiahn left Fry in the middle and Rav on the right

We are a better team with Clarke than Fry. Both poor on eye on the ball but I’d back Clarke defensively every time.

Honestly is Fry so overrated it’s incredible.
 
VDB is incredibly mature for 19. He is also noticeably vocal and this will only improve. He does seem to get frustrated with players a little bit which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just I wonder what some of the older pro's think! It's good to see! In a break in play last night, the camera showed him talking to McGree and giving him instructions. McGree was listening intently and nodding along - amazing really how he can be so confident.

100% agree with everything you say - I’d rather Carrick keep paddy than Clarke
Better player, more flexible, always available!!!
Which is a very important factor
Keeping fry is a complete no brainer

Yeah - totally agree! I seen that, he’s emerging into a real leader….
