They are trying to put my bill up from 48 to 94 quid. I only require the basic and broadband, just like to know if anyone has recently barted with the robbing buggers. Thanks in advance

I got an email from them before I went away offering to keep my Volt package at the same price for the next 18 months. I need to ring them tomorrow to sort it out.

Just tell them you're leaving. And keep telling them. Don't just accept the first discount they give you either, there'll be at least another two. The last one will be ridiculously cheap.

You'll be on the phone for ages more than once over several days, but if you don't mind that, it's easy peasy.

My contract ended on 28th June- I gave them one months notice that I was leaving, They continued to supply me with their broad band until August and billed me double what I was paying. They charged me a full months fee for 2 days. I paid up just so I could get rid of the robbing bstds.

I did that. they drop the calls then accused me of not completing the conversation.

Not how it went with me. Helped that I meant it about leaving and didn't care what they ended up offering, but their focus seemed much more on begging me to stay than trying to play tricks on me.

Not sure what obligation you've got to stay on the line anyway one you've told them. Not your fault if they won't listen.

Had a similar experience, talked to them on Web chat over a few day's. Told them I wanted to end my contract, ended up halving my bill.
I was willing to cancel out of principle.

Wish it was the same for me Chutney. 3 days on the phone. 7 whats app conversations. Even told them I was emigrating- they were utter twots with me.

I'm on 1gig Internet, every film and sport channel with a box in the front room and a 360 box in the bedroom. I pay £77.

I recently changed to Youfibre 1000mbs after getting sick of poor service with Virgin. Since canceling, they've never been off the phone offering me deals!

I'm on the most basic Virgin Media broadband and TV package as well, and they also tried to up my monthly bill to £94 a few months ago. I called them and told them I simply couldn't afford it and would have to leave (true) and they dropped it immediately to £65. A single phone conversation lasting about 10 minutes. Now I've seen Chutney's posts, I wish I'd tried a bit harder.

I left Virgin in March - my full bundle went up to £144. What I was infuriated by was the pre recorded message before you even spoke to anybody said they would reduce by £10 if I pressed 1. How many older people would have done that? I eventually got through - simply said I’m leaving - not interested in a conversation just a termination. Offered full bundle for £120 them £98. Clearly they feel they can make a profit on this so why charge £144? told them to stuff it. Moved to Sky ultra for £30 a month for 18 months - happy with speed. Like lots of people found a cheap alternate way to get the TV I need and I have already saved circa £550. Virgin and others are exploiting apathy and laziness from their customers - don’t get taken advantage of and tell them where to go!

I get a letter every year with a 50% increase thereabouts. I ring to see what they can do and have always removed the increase by playing around with my package but still leaving me with the same content or more. I do threaten to leave but speak to them nicely and they'll help is my experience. If you're rude or unpleasant they'll basically say **** you. Service in my experience has been good. In 20 years I've lost service a handful of times. Internet is 2nd to none imo.

The key to getting the best deal is always insist on cancelling and go through with it. They always ring back and offer a better deal. Just last month they put my internet up from £38 to £55. A few days later they rang back and now have it for £16 for same deal.

Ive recently left in the last 6 months, been with them from the 90s comcast days, then ntlworld (my email address was this extension) and eventually vermin, they've always cut a deal this time nothing no calls no thing so 25-30 years constant paying for their phone and broadband gone, they wanted £55 for broadband only and 512mb if I remember correctly so they got binned and now with Youfibre, £1 each month for 3 months then £30 for 18 months I think and this is for 1gig up and down, been faultless so far
